Apologies to start yet another thread, and mods feel free to merge if necessary, but I thought this might warrant a thread of it's own, just as a discussion on what reputation really means and how it affects us.
We've spoken a lot about how JB's choice of words and the subsequent radio silence from the esteemed (lol) leaders of the club, will have done damage to the club's reputation in the wider football community and perhaps beyond, and I'm sure this is true. However, it got me thinking, what does this actually mean in terms of day to day and longer term tangible effects on the club.
Financially, how much would we stand to lose as a result of these things? Would it have a marked effect on supporter numbers through the turnstiles, on ifollow, and through merchandise sales? Would it have an effect on our ability to attract sponsorship deals? Would it affect our ability to attract quality players and staff?
I'm sure all these things would have some effect, but I wonder if the board consider that the effect is not likely to be enough to warrant them doing what in my and many other's eyes would be the "right thing" in terms of coming out with a simple appeasing statement.
It's all such a horrible mess, and those who read my posts on various threads know my opinion on our board from the last couple of years, but I'd be interested to hear other's thoughts on the tangible effects from all this.

I don't profess to know much about running a football club, but one thing that seems almost blatantly obvious to me, is that recent referees, seem to be treating Rovers differently to opposition teams, a certain amount of "levelling up" as it were. I am convinced this is due to the person in charge, and the amount of grief he has given and caused within the football fraternity.

Well if I had a successful company or brand and wanted to use sponsorship to enhance brand-standing, I don't think Barton Rovers would be where I would put my money at the moment.

not sure it has much impact to be honest, yes we've lost some fans but we havent got a lucrative contract with Nike or Adidas and our shirts sponsor isnt exactly unique. Dont get me wrong im grateful for anyone that wants to invest in the club but I cant see us having to go begging back to Spall or Matchwinner next season

His, not the Clubs. I can't see it making much of a difference. The attendance is pretty much as it would be considering our league position, our away support is phenominal, I bet hospitality hasn't seen a dip in bookings, one Man? Ruining it?

I tried to get some workmates to go to the Tranmere game. A few have been before, a few who used to go before marriage and a few premier league fans etc but the only selling point was the pub crawl down Glos Rd after the game.
Even people who don't actively follow Rovers are being put off by JBs antics. I am sure we must be losing potential sponsors as well. (Guilty by association).
I am.not sure how many fans are boycotting but I am aware of at least two people who had refunds and three how are not going to games.
Then add in the missed 50/50, programme, pasties, bar money, shop sales etc we could easily be "losing" thousands each game. Thats money we can't afford to.lose.
Imagine not being able to afford to replace Evans, Thomas or Nicholson next year. There is a very very real chance none of them will be here after the summer.

I think its a given that Evans, Thomas and Nicholson won't be here next season. Evans would have signed for longer than a year or had his contract extended already if staying and no news of Nicholson contract talks, so likely to leave on a free in the summer. Only one we might be able to keep, if willing to pay, is Thomas because of his personal circumstances.

Hi everyone, Forest Green fan in peace.
Been following what's happening with the Gas since Joey promised to get you out of League 1, and to be fair to him he achieved that straight away.
I'm not going to get involved in Barton in or out, that's your business, not mine.
I will say his post-match pressers have become compulsive Saturday teatime viewing for everyone else in the league. He comes out with some right old pony.
Would it have killed Bristol Rovers to put out a simple statement on Saturday evening or Sunday apologising for any unintended offence or upset your manager caused with his inappropriate language? That would have been the end of it.
PS. I see there's been a silent takeover of Bristol Rovers according to Wikipedia. Good luck with your new owner 😬

And we've fallen so far that non-entities like FGR-matey can just stroll in and take the water. JB has certainly given us a club to be proud of just like he said he would.

I would not be surprised if Wael is stupid enough to offer Barton a share option.

Think of it as much a product of how far we have come, rather than how far you have fallen. Our Dale promised us the long term plan to take us from non-league to the Championship. And few people doubt him now. We are knocking on the door to League 1 every season, and I think it will be this year we go up again. Could have been last season if we had parted company with Coops a month earlier than we did. Non-entities is a bit harsh. Best club in the region currently, even dumped Bristol City out of the League Cup.

I guess the real fight for top club in the region is now you and Cheltenham. The world's turned upside down.

Believe me when I say the vast, vast majority of Gasheads agree with you re. putting out a statement. I'm shocked and appalled.

We arguably just sneak in at 4th place.

That's all it would have taken, a timely statement within 24 hours apologising. The club clearly knew it was problematic language, as they quickly edited out that part of the interview hoping in vain that the world and it's dog hadn't already clocked it. So somebody at the Gas is media savvy. Why didn't they get out an early doors statement. Instead of letting it drag out in to the thing it is now?
