Sat on the train bored travelling to Forest Green and thought why not start a thread about Bobby. Never thought he gets the recognition that he deserves really, did pretty well as a player and manager for us back in the day and maybe needs to go in the hall of fame? If memory serves me right he managed our first season at Twerton on a first team budget of 150k for the season which is remarkable in this day and age. I remember after we famously beat Leicester in the FA Cup at Eastville he then invited fans to the Hambrook training ground the following week to go over the video of the game and talk tactics etc about the tie! Anyway just a couple of ramblings about an unsung hero. Anyone got any more stories about him?

I was just too young to remember Bobby Gould as our manager, but I do recall a Quickly Kevin podcast with Bobby Gould a few years ago which was really entertaining. The Gas obviously get a few mentions, but it was mainly about his time with Wombles and Wales. play.acast.com/s/quicklykevin/bobbygould-s04e01

Just looking at his Wikipedia. Never realised he was such a prolific striker as a player! Including a season at City and Rovers. Says his son is Chief Executive of Bristol City. Not sure how up to date that is?

I’m sure I watched his debut for us. A hat trick at home in 4.1 win over Blackburn Rovers? Fairly sure the following week was that game at Spurs

I will always be grateful to BG ,as we called him for signing me from non league Portway Bristol and enabling me to fulfill my dream of playing Professional football and for a team i supported and still follow.
