He had all the input on signings. He also had the input on all the departures. The club were stupid not to turn down 3/4m for Ellis Harrison and the summer we signed Stefan Payne in desperation we could have signed JCH and Connor Chaplain a whole lot earlier in the window but DC didn’t move quick enough. DC brought TW in to help him after both Tom Nichols and Luke James were total flops in front of goal and he needed help with scouting. DC got us into a relegation fight on the biggest wage budget this club ever had at £2.7m!! I think you need to take off your Swissgas coloured specs and remember history as it was Jools. But you said Hamer got the bought the walking gel advert in and that DC said he wasn’t worth it so now I’m confused. Which is it ? As for Swiss ? I have learned a lot from him and not just football. I enjoy my interactions with him. I could understand us implementing much of the things we have done if we had concentrated on the team first. Look at attendances when we got promoted, both times and it really excited me, as a Kingswood resident, to see the old faces coming back, i cannot tell you how much. We truly just let all of that forward momentum slip away and now we have those calling a 6K attendance good, i would have thought that many could not have resisted the chance to go to games. Ah well, I don’t know why i even allow this to get to me at times but i truly thought we had a definite and good chance of reaching the championship, after the Dagenham game. That day will stay with me forever and for many reasons. The best day i have had at the mem and by a very long way. That had me dreaming again , i should really have known better. I said that Hamer paid £150k more than what DC valued him at…that’s not the same as Hamer buying someone DC didn’t want. DC did want him but not for £365k. Attendances are indicative of pitch performance. But why were we down to 6500 under Cogs when we were the sharp end of L1? Because you’ll always get the fair weather fans slagging off whoever is in charge of the team or board. We did have a good chance of getting to the championship, but DC lost his cool and started signing some utter crap as well as being too loyal to some of the squad that got us to L1 as well as not signing a conveyor belt of players behind his promotion winning squad to develop. I have every faith we will get promoted in the next 2-3 years.

Think you're trying to rewrite history by suggesting beating Dagenham to steal a promotion place on the last day of the season would have led to you hoping we'd get promotion to the Championship the following season? Even with Taylor and Bodin still scoring goals we only had an outside chance of making the play offs. Problem was as soon as those two departed DC seemed to completely lose his way, only he can really take the blame for our demise, as GC soon turned things around. Just a pity he couldn't do it playing attractive football as he might still be our manage. As far as Barton's mates on the bench not being on the wage bill, who are they, as I thought they were all on the payroll? Not sure what the position is with Eddie Jennings but I doubt he ever sits on the bench.

Thanks for clearing that up even though i disagree on a couple of thing but I don’t think now is the time for it for this the season to be jolly. Hope you are having a good one.

Not sure what the position is with Eddie Jennings but I doubt he ever sits on the bench. Not trying anything at all, just writing how i felt at that time, after all you must have a target and a dream. As for DC , he has made it very clear on why we parted ways so no point in me writing about it as he has told anyone who listened, why. He has ambition. EDIT Just to add, winning, like many things is a habit. We will never know but it felt great for me personally in seeing the old faces from the Kingswood area, start turning up again. Some call them fair weather fans but id use the same terminology as the Catholic Church does, they are lapsed rovers fans who just could not put up with the same old, same old. They would return if we had more wins and started to challenge for things. I am talking about guys now in their early sixties but what we now really need is younger fans to start having a reason to support us. Personally, i find it heartbreaking that Kingswood area is now as red as it is blue as it used to be a lockout blue area.

It's nonsense to say DC left as he had ambition, when he then dropped a division to manage Walsall. I doubt his present club Port Vale will ever be L1 top 7 challengers if they do ever get promoted.

Recently you may be right but historically Port Vale rank half a dozen places above ourselves I believe 👍 Although if you take historical attendance as your gauge we are a few thousand in front of Vale.

In 2021 “the day” has changed considerably from 1989. Other things haven’t! UTG!

Plus the likes of Pompey, Ipswich and Sunderland weren't in L1 or, if they were, they didn't have the mega spending power they seem to now have compared to us/PV.

Reading then certainly gives some perspective
