World Cup hero Geoff has a birthday today. Reading a report of this highlighted a fact that his father Charles Hurst was a pro footballer centre half who played for Bristol Rovers from 1938 - 1943. I cannot ever recall this being mentioned before. As can be seen it's mainly the war years so can't find out how many games he actually played. I'm sure there is someone out there with the answer westhamfans.org/content/west-ham-wishes-happy-birthday-sir-geoff-hurst

I have a fantastic signed picture of Geoff scoring the 4th England goal in the WC finals at Wembley, with the scoreboard in the background showing England 3 Germany W 2

Happy birthday Geoff and many more!

His father Charlie was a central defender and was on Rovers books just before the outbreak of ww2. Rovers disbanded as in financial trouble and infamously sold Eastville Stadium to cover debt. I attended a Waterstones book signing years ago and met Geoff and had said Hitler not invaded he could well have been born in Bristol played for Rovers and probably not scored a hat trick against West Germany. He was not amused!
