So the mem’s better because it’s got terraces and funny looking stands. These football journalists are easily pleased.
I think those are the only two categories that you can possibly put the mem higher, Ashton Gate trumps it as a good football ground in all other criterias and that’s coming from a diehard Gas fan.

'The Dripping Pan' at number 14. Hmm. Who voted in this poll?

'The Dripping Pan' at number 14. Hmm. Who voted in this poll? Dripping Pan is decent to be fair. I agree though, it's an odd mix of new and old - but at least the new are all ones with character and individuality rather than generic bowls like Southampton, Middlesbrough and so on. Find it hard to believe the Mem is above anything 😅

The Mem is quirky, but one thing that is impressive is the view from the rear of the East stand, too good at some times!

The Mem is quirky, but one thing that is impressive is the view from the rear of the East stand, too good at some times! I have been to over 130 away grounds watching Rovers mostly it has to be said in the inferior away ends. Why is it that away fans are mostly treated to inferior facilities? I have never attended a professional football match unless Rovers were playing! We all have differing experiences but for me the worst ground was York City, (been twice won 1 lost 1) best experience was sitting in the Portsmouth home stand with waitress service gin and tonics. (been three times lost all three) IMO the East Stand at the Mem is as good as any Stand I have ever been too! The view of the pitch and views over Bristol are spectacular and unbeaten in the FL IMO and the bar and toilets are equal if not better than most. Why does the difference of a metal roof or canvas roof provoke such distain when most I suspect have never been under the "tents". Those that do like that area of the ground I assume lioe the closeness to the action? Football is a spectator sport, IMO followed by fans/supporters who watch 22 players, 11 of whom are "their" team play a game on a grass pitch. Whilst any game could be deemed entertaining it only comes alive if it's "your team.

I think if you’re visiting the Mem as a one-off, then yes it is characterful, quirky and what some may see as what ‘proper’ football is all about (especially if you catch us on a day when we’re loud and the ground is packed).
However, having stood in the Mem most other weeks for about 25 years, my view of it is slightly less rosy!

But fwiw, after moving away from the Bristol area due to work and with family commitments over the past 40 years I’ve spent much of my time watching an alien team, AFCB, a team which for most of that time were one of our biggest rivals all through the 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s. Was unable to get the time to travel and see us so made sure children were not armchair United or Chelsea fans and took them to their local club, AFCB. (Never knowing that they would have they success they did.) With family now supporting them I go with them to watch and I watch as a neutral. You’re probably right about it needs to be your team but I’ve always enjoyed live football as opposed to TV stuff so I enjoy it. But going live to the Mem is still the best! UTG!

To be fair, it’s always an in tents atmosphere at the Mem.

Really bizarre is that list. I guess we don’t need a new place then, so long as these types of lists get published 😂

In fairness to that list they got ibrox right as number one. Hands down the best atmosphere at a football stadium in this country I’ve experienced. Great club. Dortmund tops the lot if go Europe wide though.
