Playing out from the back, but also sitting really deep.. Playing out from the back....... against Man City . Maybe Garner thinks he should be in the other dugout No, that’s our manager

I find it annoying that Swindon get to the 3rd round for the first time in a decade and end up getting the Champions at home.

I’m not particularly fond of Swindon, but I would have loved them to have won tonight. Surely in the Cup you have to be on the side of the underdog, I thought they put up a good show against one of the best teams in Europe. You won’t say that if we need them to beat a team to get us into the playoffs.

Mckirdy looks a good player. He's another player that wouldn't have seemed a great signing for Swindon as he hardly set the world alight at Port Vale last season before being released, but he does look a good player now. A bit like McCormick and Evans for us in that respect, where they came in with less than glowing praise from Shrews and Crewe, yet were excellent for us.

I was at the Etihad on Boxing Day and saw Man City dismantle Leicester. 4-0 in 25 clinical minutes. That they came right back into it in the second half shows what Leicester can do but Man City were on another level. Living where we do we (unfortunately) have many friends who are Leeds fans and they got slaughtered there 7-0. Given what they can do to Premier League teams, I actually think Swindon did pretty well yesterday. I understand what people are saying about not playing out from the back but the alternative in all probability means giving Man City even more possession which isn’t exactly ideal! They are so good at pressing that you’re doomed to failure either way.

Nothing wrong with playing out from the back when it is safe to do so! but there is a time and place and on a few occasions Swindon players made crazy decisions, its as if the directive was 'it is compulsory to pass our way out of defence', it's as if the players feared severe consequences if they dared gave it some welly! Yes you may lose possession if you 'hoof' it but at least it will be well away from immediate danger!

Palmer for Man City and Mckirdy for Swindon stood out for me. As for playing out from the back or going long I also agree, yes they could maybe have gone longer now and again but on the whole that is the principles they are used to week in week out, why suddenly change that by hitting it long all the time and playing a way you're not used to, also like you said Man City will just keep coming back then anyway. Well done Garneriola.

You have to be able to change your game though, playing around the back as L2 footballers against a top high press side like Man City is always gonna end in failure.
Best thing would have been to stay tight and compact and hit them on the break.
Garnerball is only one trick though

Garner said after the game that they had spoken about pinging the ball longer in the event that Man City were pressing high, but it didn't work out that way.

Thought they did well they over elaborated playing out from the back which is what Ben said afterwards, I like him just think he had too much meddling going on when he was with us, he has assembled a decent team quickly and getting results in the league.
The Chelsea shirt looks like a T shirt what a terrible design can t believe they chose that, looks like a pub team kit lol

True, but trying to play short passes out of your own box against them was like bending over. Always worries me when we do it let alone against a team of that quality

Kaine Kessler-Hayden has been recalled from his loan by Villa. Good news as he is very decent for Swindon. Guess that's the downside to loan players playing well in big FA Cup games!
