Good episode, I wonder about the referee's bias - as Caz said, when Barton was at Fleetwood you'd just expect them to be a team in his image, and I wonder if that's the same now he's here.
I also echo Neno's concerns that for next season, if Nicholsen & Evans leave we're going to need yet another rebuild - seem to have got all our eggs in this one basket

I agree, we've always known what baggage would come with appointing him, and that's before we get into the off-the-field, erm... distractions. Yet for some reason we're persisting with him, going nowhere fast!

I normally would distance myself from any claims of bias against us, but under JB I have felt for a while that a lot of decisions go against us that would never be given against others. Harries red card earlier this season was a prime example. JB has been very vocal in his criticism of refs and it's not at all surprising that we get a lot of decisions against us. They probably all have a WhatsApp group where they discuss the latest insults they've received from him and others like Warnock that love to lay into referees. It's bound to result in occasional conscious or unconscious bias against him.
JB does seem to have toned that side down a little bit in the last couple of months, maybe he's twigged that it doesn't do us any favours.

I've only just listened to this pod and it was interesting Max's point about referee bias. His suggestion that referees now perceive Bristol Rovers as being a "Joey Barton" side might equate to ~10% greater likelihood of decisions going against us.. in other words; whenever there is a decision to make, the benefit of the doubt will be more likely to go to the opposition. Similar to the advantage home teams might get when they have a rawcus crowd.
So against Peterbrough when the box was crowded with players and the ball was pinballing about and ended up in the net - the ref might have a feeling it went in illegally somehow (based on an unconscious bias that Bristol Rovers - under Joey Barton - is a team more likely to break the rules) and gave a foul/handball or whatever it was.
This scenario is potentially a double injustice when you consider that some FA Cup 3rd round ties had the "benefit" of VAR. Which may well have corrected the referee or influenced him to not call it back for the foul/handball/offside or whatever as the VAR team would let him know if they had caught an infringement.

To be honest I think some people are maybe just desperate to believe their own thoughts of bias, but others unlikely to feel the same. 👍

Right wingers think BBC is biased to the left and vice versa. Barton does always seem to point the finger at refereeing decisions when results have not gone our way though. Even DC conceded it after we played Port Vale at home. Maybe it will balance out over the course of the season? Or maybe it won't.. we will see
