Not a huge surprise, but we are moving further and further away from this so called "sustainable model" Shame, thought he showed some potential and one of a handful to come away with credit from last season

I didn't even realise Widdrington was the manager.

He had a stab but clearly didn’t do enough to warrant Barton wanting to keep him at the club. Fingers crossed we have other, younger players being trained up to make the step up.

Widdrington knows these players so no surprise he will cherry pick what he wants - probably JB glad of him freeing up the squad places if they are never likely to hold down a 1st team place in the future

Is it a failure of the club to develop young talent or a failure to recruit good young talent. Either way it seems pretty clear that the sustainable model of developing young players is well and truly finished.

Messrs Phillips, Mehew & Hoole are the leading pack in regard to academy talent coming through to the senior side. Albeit it’s only the latter who is featuring for the first team right now. The other two are doing great things out on loan and are (to the best of my knowledge) thought of very highly by those at the club.

Tommy hardly pulling up trees there and a game on Friday night coming up against Mahers Southend.

I dont know the poster but someone on here claimed they spoke to Phillips Dad, and he had a text from the club stating he is free to leave the club as his deal expires this summer.

But after that it went terribly pear shaped.

feel sad about him, he was actually decent when he got a run in the side last year albeit a very poor side, thought he'd be useful in L2. For some reason it hasnt happened for him, so wishing him all the best.

Another promising young home grown talent leaves without being given a proper chance to show what he can do, while the club rely on ancient fossils like Leon Clarke and Glenn whelan

He was not home green released by Fulham and joined our academy.Saw his debut at Exeter in JPt but never progressed to push for a first team spot.

Good luck to him. Shame it didn’t work out for him here but sometimes it works to take a step backwards before moving forward again.

Rovers have connor taylor on loan from a club several divisions above. He is playing well and is a first choice player im sure rovers would want to sign him.
Our young players need to be going to teams 2 levels below and making the shirt their own and have that club and its fans wishing they could sign him.
If they cant do that...are they good enough for Rovers ?
I should also add. Good luck Zain on your new challenge. Thanks for your time at Rovers ,you certainly put lots of effort in.
