Don't think we played well last game, we won but if we were Poole supporters we would be upset with the result given the chances they made. Win Sat and most will be happy and talking play-offs. Draw and it will be said a good result against a play-off placed team (apparently with a crap manager) Lose and will be back to meltdown. Lose badly and off to the tower will be the shout.

My overriding annoyance with last season was we played well in a lot of games but still always lost to soft goals and could never finish our chances. Recently we have been doing the opposite. I’m starting to think it’s not about playing well, it’s about what you do in both boxes. Perhaps JB knows this and while we don’t need to dominate games, we just need to have enough up front and at the back to score one more than them.

Nice to make an assumption without knowing why I’m not going. Cheers 👍🏻 It was a joke. Ah ok, you should have made it funny so it was more obvious.

I was fairly pro-Barton when he was appointed, escpecially after watching & listening to some of the things he did before joining us (Cambridge University talks etc) However I've gone off him more & more, but if he starts getting results then I'm not too bothered. Interesting to hear in an interview with Matt Taylor - Exeter City Manager (not the snake!), that in our game with them recently he was still at his usual antics... Quote from the interview: "Walking down the tunnel and Joey Barton was giving it absolute stacks (abuse) to one of our players and my assistant manager, so I had a word with Joey. But his goalkeeper coach was the biggest man I have ever seen in my life! A guy called Tony Warner, ex-Wolves, he was an absolute giant! You always get it where a load of people walk down a small tunnel at the same time with aggro and you are basically waiting for it to boot off a little bit and I'm thinking, walking down that tunnel I'm thinking, if this goes wrong here I'm in serious trouble" It was a light hearted interview with Joe Wilkinson & David Earl you can listen to it here: Skip to about 55 minutes if you don't want to listen to it all play.acast.com/s/my-new-football-club/episode20-exetercitymanager-matttaylor

So what if we didn’t play well Saturday. How many times have we played well in the last 24 months and not got anything for it? We got the result and that’s all that matters. Besides. We’ve been playing well recently anyway. A lot of supporters thought GC was crap. They decided to give him sh** from the terraces because we didn’t play like Man City. This is despite being an effective squad who took us to our highest position in 20 years. Made it easy for GC when a team close to home came calling. Then we got Ben Garners merry men and Paul “thinking face” Tisdale. Maybe occasionally pretty but couldn’t buy a win. I’d take last Saturday over a side that plays nice and wins every now and then. And Ben Garner is a crap manager.

And Ben Garner is a crap manager. Given our comparative league position and result against him so far... what does that make Joey Barton?

Evidently not as good a squad as "crap manager" Ben Garner has already put together virtually from scratch? Based on results over the course of this season anyway. The cringe earlier this season before we played Swindon at home and Barton gave it the big spuds about offering to walk Garner through the finer points of football management.. only to get well and truly beaten. Absolutely embarrassing.

A season is 46 games long, not an average of 23 between the two squads. If we win tomorrow and our games in hand over Swindon we’re in sniffing distance. And yeah, if he can’t beat him over 46 games then he probably isn’t a crap manager he’s a horseshit manager.

Ben Garner only had 33 games managing Bristol Rovers. Joey has had 38.... Although to be fair, Joey has a better points per game average at Rovers ( 1.04) than Ben ( 0.79) - albeit mostly in a lower league. Let's see how this season pans out.

Big rebuilding job in the summer for who ever is in charge with the likes of Taylor, Evans, Nicholson and Thomas unlikely to be here and 6 or 7 signings from the summer failing to impress.

To be fair I was thinking more Rovers vs Swindon in the league this season assuming they both manage a complete season. Garner has probably found his level. To be fair, I can’t and won’t forgive the bloke for our performances with the squad he took over. We were an effective unit and he arrogantly (IMO) ripped up a squad which was effective if not pretty in favour of a squad of players that weren’t. JB had the reverse - a club in free fall - it’s hard to turn that situation around especially when you can’t undo the decisions made by your predecessors in the transfer market. I guess I’m surprised he’s done well at Swindon and it frustrates me after the impact his tenure had on the club. I had a dream the other night Swindon sacked him and that we had overtaken them in the league. I need to get out more!
