scored 6 goals away from home today are heading the championship and possibly on their way to the premiership.
How many of us remember just 3.5 years ago going down to Dean Court and watching Stuart Campbell's team take on Howe's Bournemouth team in League1 and playing them off the park just to let 2 goals in against the run of play in the last 5 minutes and to lose 2-1.
I recount this only because the gap between us now seems so huge and yet that fixture seems like only yesterday. I remember walking back across the park and a Bournemouth fan coming up to us and saying " You were robbed "
Where did we go so badly wrong??
This is a rhetorical question and not intended to start a debate on the failings of this club

I'm literally not ready for a world where Bournemouth are in the Premier League. Fair play to them. Technically the best in the west.

Both boards took gambles, one lost, it could be that one is less seasoned at the table perhaps?

I remember the 1-0 replay win there as well. Perhaps it has something to do with recognising a good manager when they have one and getting him back

Makes me wonder where did it all go wrong for us when you see the likes of Hull, Swansea and Bournmouth scaling the heights and us sinking like a stone. I always thought that once we owned our own stadiumn we would take off instead the complete opposite has happened.

It can only tell us anything is possible and we aren't wrong to dream. That's why we stick with it right? For every Bournemouth or Swansea, there is a Hereford and Stockport though

Absolutely "that's why we stick with it", we dare to dream and dreams come true. We persevere and we SHALL prevail. UTG!

Nick Higgs I don't pretend to know the whole reason for our demise , but I honestly don't believe it's all the fault of one person.

Nick Higgs It's the season to be jolly and put our grievances away for a little while. And on that note: Well done Nick Higgs for winning the 50/50 draw on Friday and immediately putting it into the Rovers Academy, Nice touch. Plus, i must add, while people are praising managers and players for being 3rd at Christmas, it takes the whole club to achieve things and the board must be congratulated as much as anyone else for our good start. Merry Christmas one and all.

er exactly how can it not start a debate on the failings of this club?! Because the question was rhetorical - ie it was meant for effect and not to be answered. When you sit and look at what Bournemouth or even Swansea I am not the only one who looks on enviously and thinks - "why couldnt that have been us??" Its not a question that I want anyone to answer as the answer is too depressing and we have had enough doom and gloom. There is a huge positive to this however in that if we were where Bournemouth are now - then we would never have met or seen Brownbeard who is going to replace Blackbeard as Bristols most legendary Pirate.

In regards to the OP, I remember that game vividly.
We were in complete control of the game and midway through the second half we carved through their defence like a knife through butter. Danny Senda was one-on-one with the goalkeeper 18 yards out and he rightly opened his body up to slide the ball home, but inexplicably he got his foot underneath the ball (slightly bobble if we're being generous?) and the ball sailed over the crossbar.
I was on my knees, I couldn't believe it. If we'd gone 2-0 up I have no doubt we'd have won the game and that could have been the catalyst to keep us up in League One. The horrible thing about it was that Senda was a very decent player and he loved playing for us so for him to be the one to spurn the chance was disappointing.

That's my exact thoughts on that game too. When Senda put that over I turned and said to the person I was stood with: "That's it, we'll lose this now." Even though we were 1-0 up at the time, it was just one of those moments in a high importance game that if you don't convert, you inevitably get punished for it. And as you say, winning there could have been the catalyst to us staying up, and I genuinely think we would have.

Surely the obvious answer is that all these teams got a very rich benefactor on board, there's hardly any teams making it to the promised land without one now? Perhaps if we ever built the UWE we would attract one, NH could have a very similar vision to the Bournemouth Chairman for all we know but who's seriously going to invest millions into a club playing at the Mem?

On Friday at half time I was absolutley certain that we would turn it around and win. It wasnt a hope or wish , I genuinely had a preminition and felt confident to the point that I told at least a group of 6 people to cheer up and that we were going to win 3-1. I wont tell you what that they said as one of the words started with a "F" and the other one was off . Admittedly I did get the score wrong but I just knew we were going to win .
