For me Joey has wasted the January window by not bringing in a couple of more experienced pros in the defensive area of the team! More midfielders brought in when when clearly we needed some experience at the back to balance out the youth we have in that area! I don't think we are far off of having a successful team in this division but with so many of our better players out of contract this summer we could be facing another overhaul of players coming and going again. The soon to be out of contract players are the more offensive people and if they are to leave after a non promotion campaign which is becoming more and more obvious then we will have to rebuild not just the week defensive area I mention but now the forward areas too! It's a worry when what we need after so many comings and goings is a settled squad! Also a manager that lasts more than 18 months in charge is a help too lol

It's an odd time to start this thread when we've just kept a clean sheet to one of the form teams in L2, the issue seems to be scoring goals, not stopping them?
As far as a summer rebuild, that seems the way lower league football is going, given that most clubs are now rely upon on just one year contracts and loan players.

Yes I agree with your view but it's a worry that we haven't been able tied down our key players like Evans and Nicholson by now plus the lack of experience at the back is the reason why we don't play a higher line and push/ bring the ball out from the back. I certainly don't think another midfielder or 2 was needed in January.

The defence looked solid as a rock today, Taylor was immense, the problem was going forward and a lack of shooting, as the saying goes if you don’t shoot you won’t score.

Awesome defensive performance today (from both sides other than their LB to be fair) Taylor alway MOTM but Hoole for me deserved it today. Class performance way above his age and experience.

We look shakey without our best defender but then the same could be said for most sides. Liverpool are excellent but won nothing last season mainly because their best defender was out for most of the season. I like this squad that Barton has built. It’s very gradually improved throughout the season so far and with 18 games left hopefully it’ll keep improving. It would be nice if our best defender wasn’t a loan signing but it’s not unusual for a lower league sides best performer to be a Loan signing. Good solid performance today Belshaw was hardly troubled v a side that’s been scoring and winning for fun.
6 goals conceded in our last 7 games would suggest that our defence has improved with our better form of late.

The worry for me defensively is the depth. Top draw defensive performance yesterday, by lose any of them and we suddenly look waaaaay worse. On a different note, what happened with Loft? Don't remember hearing about his injury at the time - so even though it's obvious he must be injured, what actually is it that's up?

It can't help Rodam, Kilgour, T Clarke and Brown are all injured, plus Jaakola is a totally different type of keeper than Belshaw.
We were told Loft had suffered a back injury after he missed the Scunthorpe game with an apparent head injury, but Barton's stopped giving weekly updates recently.

The back 4 were excellent yesterday buy my worry going forward is that 2 of them aren't our players. I hope we are already talking to Stoke about the possibility of Taylor coming back next year but in all honesty I think thats wishful thinking. Not sure what Connelly's contract situation is but I've been impressed by him, if his contract is up I'd definitely like to see him signed permanently if possible

Very easy for people to say Barton has wasted opportunities to sign certain experienced players, but I wish they would actually name the defender or striker that we have missed out on. Can’t be easy trying to assemble the perfect squad at the right price. Hopefully Connelly will sign when he leaves Cardiff and will surely only improve us next year.

I prefer realism and not the 'happy talkin', talkin happy talk' world you are so insistent to try and portray. It is what it is, a middle of the table defensive record for a middle of the table team.

It is what it is, a middle of the table defensive record for a middle of the table team. Recently when Taylor and Belshaw are in the side the defence has seemed fairly solid. Apart from the last few minutes at Scunthorpe the last time we concided more than one goal with those two on the pitch in the league was way back in November, that seems a top 7 defence to me.

We've had a fairly favourable run of fixtures, let's see how things hold up towards the end of March going into April when they should be really tested. The more immediate concern has to be the amount of clear cut chances we are creating and shots on goal. Just the two attempts on target vs Sutton recently and just the one on target yesterday - overall 22nd in League Two for total shots per game.
