Captain, Leader and model professional.
Had a poor start due to a covid ravaged pre season which started with red card at Mansfield. For me he is the glue that keeps our team together and does the dirty work not always appreciated. Without his partnership with Finlay we are not as affective in controlling the midfield which in turn allows our flair players in Evans, E. Anderson and Collins to affect games.
He reminds me of Mansell's influence in L2 in many ways looking back to that successful season, his partnership with Lines was instrumental in getting us automatic promotion. I think Coutts and Finlay have that similar partnership. Evidently the younger players are looking up to him and his standards and influence have acquired him the name of 'Uncle' in the dressing room.
Posting this before a game is a risk I know but I'm posting this on evidence so far, Coutts for me is our best piano carrier and you need plenty of them in L2. UTG.

I feel we need both him and Whelan here next year in some form of capacity. Model professionals and leaders of young men.

I’m really happy he’s got fit again, many on here have slagged him off, and at a lot at away games, heard many questioning what he brought to the team??? For me, he’s been our best player for about the last 10 games ( when played )

Think Coutts along with a lot of player's struggled with the hard fitness sessions. Barton said we would see the benefits later in the season and I think we are seeing that, with a lot of player's. Last Tuesday game tonight as well. We have had a lot of games recently and have looked leggy in a couple and struggled when resting a few key player's. So going to one game a week, should help us.

He was woeful at the start of the season, and i wouldnt have been bothered if we saw the back of him. Since the turn of the year though he has been pretty much faultless. Long may it continue

Long may it continue In my latter days of my glittering football career, as I got older it would take at least 6-8 games at the start of season before I felt I got up to speed so to speak .

The only off game I've seen Coutts have recently was when Finley was missing and I think Grant (what's happened to him?) was playing instead. The two seem to complement each others game very well

This was the position Barton himself played, so I think his eye for a player in that role has been crucial
He’s assembled a squad of undeniable talent across the front 4 in players like Anderson x2, Evans, Nicholson, Collins
My only gripe with his recruitment would be the strikers
Pitman was a poor signing
Clarke probably won’t play more than 5 games?
Loft doesn’t look like he will suddenly score goals
Which has left us reliant on Collins, and it’s no coincidence our up turn has been as a result of his form
It’s probably his only regret if he’s honest with his recruitment and it’s crucial to our success that Collins ends the season with continued form

I think he plays better when we are winning. Loses pocession in some dodgy places when we are not winning.

Uncle Coutts with another sublime performance last night. Shielded our back four and broke up play very well against quite a tricky Colchester side.

He was outstanding last night. That’s the best performance I’ve seen from him this season. Ran the midfield showed great composure and broke up numerous Colchester attacks. Well done uncle coutts.

Completely controlled the midfield today, my motm. Spot on Russ, he was immense. Arguably the best performance by a midfielder in many a year for us. He started the season slowly after his return from covid, but is now showing us all why Joey brought him to the club.
