Case adjournedAfter lengthy legal arguments, the district judge Andrew Sweet has adjourned the case for today, because the case cannot proceed. The trial will happen on a future date to be decided. What a load of cobblers, and now on to Northampton.

What a farce, why didn't the CPS just take a statement from Mrs B when she offered to give them one? They don’t want to take a statement from her as it will weaken their case. Now there going to have to.

Now there going to have to. It probably will weaken the case, but at the same time the CPS will ask why it took 8 or 9 months to come forward lots of moving parts none of us are privvy too and I suspect the case won't end up going ahead at all in the future, which doesn't clear anything up

I appreciate that but there must have always been a good chance the case would be adjourned today if they didn't, unless they don't even have a case once she supplied her statement.

It would be an abuse of process for them to ignore a victims request to provide a statement for or against their case so they have no option now but to take it from her.

Everybody's ignoring the fact that he prosecution asked for the adjournment to the first hearing. If they needed more time to bring the case to court, surely it's fair that the defence can do likewise. ie. His wife's statement that was sent to the CPS in February and from what has been said was ignored.

From a Rovers perspective, Joey is gaffer Until the end of the season and our run in is interrupted.
If he is found guilty in June and a new manager is required, then whatever division we’re in they’ll have a good chance of a pre season for next years campaign.

This case just shows how stupid the law is sometimes in this country, what about some common sense in law these days ? Man turns up in court with wife arm in arm and he is being done for attacking his wife..... What a complete waste of time and money, except if you are a barrister then bring it on ! on another theme its being reported that over 50 homeless people live on the streets of Bristol, why is the CPS not prosecuting BCC under the human rights act... Many women are assaulted, but withdraw their evidence, for various reasons, which we could discuss.

I know its a possibility but it baffles me that it gets to court without a statement from the victim, surely anyone anyone in their right mind would want to know her side of things

His wife's statement that was sent to the CPS in February and from what has been said was ignored. but the defence dont want to call her as that makes it look like she is making a statement to get JB off the hook. Far better that she makes a statement to the Police of her own volition. The fact that the Prosecution wanted to go ahead and the judge obviously decided against - suggests to me that the prosecution have been knocked back. Will they persist?

So how do you explain the injuries she suffered? Fell over? He was asked to demonstrate how to jostle past an opponent and deliver an inswinging cross, unfortunately he was very drunk and chose to utilise the close proximity of his wife for the demonstration, as a result of his jostling manoeuvre she lost her balance and fell right in front of him just as he was about to belt over a perfect cross…QED accidental golf ball sized lump misinterpreted by bystanders. Lawyers have been gathering pinches of salt every day since these details came to light….
