Well I’m glad that I kept faith with the lads last week. Whilst we are on the subject of faith, I had no idea that Archbishops were allowed to curse people but that doesn’t appear to have been a problem for old Gavin Dunbar, Archbishop of Glasgow, who, in 1525, was so vexed by the lawlessness of the border reivers that he unleashed a whopping 1069 word vitriolic diatribe upon them.
According to a Carlisle city councillor Jim Tootle the curse was still active in the 2000’s and responsible for a goal famine the football team were experiencing, so he proposed that a stone monument with the words of the curse engraved upon it should be removed in order to lift it. What a nutter! I bet he doesn’t like lasagne either and probably prefers a twenty inch long hot sausage, but then he does live in the old county of Cumberland.
Which reminds me, after we‘ve laid siege to the Carlisle goal (they’re used to it as the most besieged place in the UK) and taken the lead, don’t be surprised if they unleash the hounds and mount a counter raid, or “hot trod”, whilst carrying a piece of burning turf on a spear. Apparently it is their right under border law provided that it is enacted within six days, however in our time at Brunton Park I fully expect us to come away with the three points leaving them nothing to brag about except Lord Melvyn. I’ve clearly thought about it for too long and pitched it at the wrong level haven’t I, as Baggins’ Hugo/knob gag thread proves. I reckon young Billy Elliot with the one goal, just to taunt the Picts on the other side of Hadrian’s wall. There, I’ve gone and done it again!

You’ve clearly put some effort in though, let’s hope it pays off again. 😎👍

It’s going to be tight as the ex shithead Simpson has turned them around since going there. I think there will be one goal in it but god does it pull on your nerves these close encounters especially every time they attack.
I’m going with my heart 2-0 as I want us to go ahead of Northampton even if only on goal different as I think their game will be tight as well Home to Hartlepool

I think I’m nervous about today as we lost here in the run up to the back to back promotion season.
Head says a draw, but my heart says we’ll sneak a win 2-1.

Looking at other fixtures, other than vale v sutton and maybe a point for bradford v newport, the rest look like 3pts for our rivals Anything else a bonus!

Let’s not forget Nick Anderton signed a two-year deal after captaining Carlisle. Sure he will want his goal scoring boots on so I’m going for him and Collins in a 2-0 win

I’m worried about this one. Woad supplies are running low, the spears need sharpening after another Scots border raid which saw our women dragged off to Dumfries and have you seen the price of turf thanks to Yeltsin? More time for the lads to enjoy the footy then. When I say I’m worried, I mean that we may win by just one goal rather than the two I had in mind. We’re used to having our backs against the wall (funny lot them Scots) but we’re good on the break so don’t be fooled by your possession stats. And don’t switch off in added tome, that’s when we’re at our best.

We are going to drop points before the end of the season. I think we will win today though.

I thought Paul Simpson spoke very well and eloquently about us and his position at Carlisle. For a relatively young man who had an excellent career as a footballer, it was sad to hear that only recently he had to leave his coaching role to battle a life threatening condition. Fair play to the man to bounce back and get Carlisle, who were at one time just about odds on to be be relegated, into a position of safety - I have nothing but admiration for the guy. Hopefully his team will get turned over today but I wish him and Carlisle all the very best for the remainder of this season.

I enjoyed the intro Squiffy - good to see a bit of culture on here! I'm going for a 1-2 Rovers victory.

Confident of at least a point today.
Would be even more confident if we had a player called Archie Bishop.
