For a variety of reasons strikers have frequently struggled to detect their goal-scoring boots when joining Bristol Rovers.
PLAYER A
Joined Bristol Rovers in August 1998. Scored a total of 48 goals in 93 games for BRFC.
YET. Having scored the final goal in a 4-1 victory over Reading on 15/08/1998 in his third game he then went 15 games before he scored again.
PLAYER B
Joined Bristol Rovers in July 2004. Scored 62 goals in 176 games for BRFC.
YET. Having scored in his third game in the Carling Cup against Brighton on 24/08/2004 he took until 29th January 2005 to score his first league goal.
PLAYER C
Joined Bristol Rovers in August 2006. Scored 59 goals in 155 appearances for BRFC.
YET. He scored his first goal in his 13th game on 26/11/2006. He then played 12 more times before he scored for a second time.
The identity of these three BRISTOL ROVERS LEGENDS is well known.
Their less than brilliant initial goal-scoring record might be lost in the sands of time.
Just as Aaron Collins made a very slow start to this season and has now blossomed could Ryan Loft be the next late developer?

You could just as easily have made a list of strikers who started poorly and did not improve.

I thought that he took his chance really well. He has only really played a cameo so far since signing. I reckon he could be a 15-20 goal a season striker.

I have been quite critical of the signing of Loft, mainly because of the lack goals in regards to the chances we create, during the run in, it has taken worldies whether they've been from Evans, Finley, Collins and the Geordie Maradona to beat teams, and that wouldn't go on forever.
I thought paying for Loft intstead of a proven, pacy, experienced Striker would come back to bite us in the arse.
However judging by his run and deft finish against Port Vale, it looks that Loft has got that in his locker and with a bit of nurturing, as he's clearly not the finished article, he could be that player.
In all fairness to Joey, and considering his quotes about the recruitment from the previous managers, he hasn't got to much wrong has he? Belshaw, Taylor, Connoly, Coutts, Whelan, Finley, Evans, H. Anderson, Collins and of course Geordie Maradona have all been sensational signings

The thing is that we have learnt to play without a number 9 (which loft is). We play with a lone striker and pack the midfield, with the two wide players joining in as an extra attacker when on the front foot. This has been extremely successful for us so can't see us changing unless chasing the game? (unless jb goes like for like and replaces Collins with loft?). Give loft a full pre season and if we go to a front 2 next season judge him on that. IMO Loft has all the attributes to becoming a decent striker.

I wonder how many who saw the great sides of the 50s still watch matches? I'm sure there are lots around but many might be getting on a bit to still go to games. I'm as old as the hills and I never saw Bradford play. I saw Biggs a couple of times in his final and my first season, 1968-69.
