i was reading something on Facebook and it reminded me of the incident on Saturday's match where the FGR player went out of his way to spit at Harry Anderson as he lay on the floor - it was a disgusting act of complete provocation and there was brief hostility between players as a result .The referee saw it but felt that it was only worthy of a yellow card. Am i out of touch with how spitting is seen or did anyone else think that it was worthy of greater punishment?

Was that in front of the dugout?
I thought it was the lad just giving Nicky Anderton a mouthful after a big challenge.
Wasn’t aware of any spitting incident? If someone does it intentionally, straight red & should receive a free hit two footer on your way off.

Pretty sure if you directly spit at someone on purpose it’s a straight red.

Should always be a straight red, no excuses for that kind of behaviour.

It was right in front of me - wasn't spitting, he was booked for unsportsmanlike contact for giving verbals to Anderson after the tackle. Was right in front of the 4th official too who would have seen any spitting offence.

Some say he definitely did some say he definitely didn't, if our own fans don't even know how can the ref send him off? If he spat he deserves a red and more no question but no one seems to know. Is this our fans finding him guilty when there is no proof, oh hang on a min

Spitting is assault in the eyes of the law and is also a disgusting act!

Lowest of the low for sure.
If he gobbed on or towards Anderton then I’m sure the bench would’ve made a lot more of the incident than they did, given it was 5 yards away from them.

I would like to give some praise to Joey Barton and Paul Coutts in relation to referees.
It appears that most interaction between referee and players goes through our captain and only him.
I assume that this situation is a deliberate management decision or good captaincy.
I have long felt that only two players should talk to the referee as it would cut down on dissent and abuse aimed at officials.
I apologise for going off topic but did not feel it worth a new thread, but something that came to mind when reading this thread.

That’s different than obviously spitting in someone’s face though.

The amount of points we probably lost due to this reds wound probably put us top.

Agree with most on this - if player caught spitting at an opponent then it’s a straight Red Card. It can also be classified as an assault. There’s an huge health and safety issue as well. It’s just a vile thing to do at someone.

Straight red and the player gobbed on should be allowed to smack the gobber in the face with no punishment.
