One thing that is different to our past successes is the amount of key loanee players we have had help us to success. It is something we have never really used to our advantage enough before, I remember DC in particular didn't like playing loanees too much.
Gary Johnson and Yeovil were obviously successful doing it. I wonder if continue using this especially with Joey's contacts whether this is our best chance of pushing on even further.
On another note will we see the likes of Connor Taylor, Connolly, Elliot Anderson, Luke Thomas again?

Conor Taylor, if he is not in Stokes first team squad then must be a very good chance of getting him back. Connolly is out of contract, he knows he could be first choice next season so sign him up. Billy Elliot, very unlikely to be back unless he tells Newcastle he would prefer it here rather than a move to the unknown in the championship, Thomas, not sure what his contract situation is, maybe we could get on a free.

I Agree, I think all but Billy are possible. I have a suspicion that Connolly wouldn't be half the player without Connor Taylor. Might be completely wrong about that just a gut feeling.

There is a possibility that some or all may come back for six months if their parent club want them to be tested at a higher level. It would be hard to say anything other than they have all had a successful loan spell with us, they have clearly enjoyed it and they have been given minutes and experience above and beyond any expectation.

Spoke with Taylor after the game behind the West Stand, I’d be very surprised if he came back.
Billy I’d be tempted to guarantee L1 football for 6 months and tell Newcastle if he’s too good for L1 then loan him on Jan to the Championship

May get elliot back for 6 months if championship clubs want a better deal then being offered.whatever happens they will be gasheads for life.

I'd be very surprised to see Taylor or Billy in the quarters again. Fingers crossed that we can get Luke and Connolly to sign on the dotted line.

We made a light joke about Stoke already confirming him for another season - not sure he’s the brightest as he actually seemed a bit concerned.. had to say it was a 5 year deal for him to get it. Shook his hand anyway and thanked him for his service this season if he doesn’t come back, he just seemed a bit off over that. Nothing concrete and hard to write it out, but just a gut feeling by how he seemed/reacted. I guess it all depends whether Stoke will want him in the first team yet. If not, then he might as well join us for another year - but if he has the chance of being the back up CB or better, he should go for it

Don't agree ggmi re Connolly. Just watching him with the ball at his feet tells me all I need to know. Quite happy to bring the ball out and play a good pass and knows when row z required. I would be delighted if he signs and I'm sure Joey will be bringing in a quality replacement for Connor if he does stay at Stoke. Be very surprised if Stoke loan him out but can't see them doing that with another Championship team. Might as well keep him for themselves in the Championship. So a loan back to us is very possible I would think especially if Connor is happy here.

Possibly incapable of coherent thought?

It would be a wise move for them all to continue their football development with us here. A division up at a time and not go straight from league 2 to the Championship. Time is on their side for Championship football.
Where better to continue that incremental development? Familiar and successful environment with a squad that are clicking together.

Assuming that Connolly signs but we don't get Taylor back, a fit Alfie Kilgour will do for me! He was excellent when he had the right partner in Craig and I think would be excellent with Connolly.

I'm not so sure. We play different football under Joey than Coughlan. Under Joey you have to be more comfortable on the ball, and from memory Kilgour isn't the quickest either?

Sad to say but I don’t think Alfie is good enough to play in this team. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him move on over the summer.

Nail hit firmly on the head. The difference is that Joey has been there seen it done it at the highest level. This is why under previous leadership and culture we have always just kept our head above water in L1 L2. The difference is night and day now with someone that has been at the elite level. My lads even say just look at some of the goals we are scoring, at times it is like watching Man City with the build up and patience !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If we can keep the quality of someone like Joey and players he signs, we will be playing now at Championship, lower level prem standard. Its the next manager that will ultimately happen at some point (although not any time soon I hope) that comes in we need to set our sights on. Someone like a prem player manager and staff.

Both centre backs have been awesome.
