"a person or thing whose presence or behaviour is likely to put one at a disadvantage"
I certainly wouldn't say that Finley's presence puts us at a disadvantage, completely the opposite in fact. Yes, he does lose it sometimes, and has missed some games for disciplinary reasons, but I'll take this in order to get all the positive attributes he's brought to the squad. Even when he was having an absolute shocker against FGR, he didn't hide and still gave it his all.

Coutts and Finley top of the chart, we were 4 points off FGR...what could have been? Both great assets mind. |

I completely forgot about Hughes! Has to go down as Barton's worst signing so far? Most of us thought he was a good signing at the time.
From doing a bit of searching, its looks like the injury he got with us ended his playing career.

It's a shame that Joey forgot to consult his crystal ball before signing him Yeah I remember Accrington fans were sorry to see him go and felt he had at least another season in L1 in him. An injury free Hughes would have been decent tbh, similar to Clarke of Tranmere who Barton also had at Fleetwood |

I am talking about the margin between being available or not due to suspensions, and whether that would have been worth the points to make us champions. Everybody was concerned about Coutts missing the playoffs right? Fortunately it was irrelevant and perhaps his absence enabled the 7 goals! |

I’m sure someone will put me right but istr reading on here that we’ve only had 1 or perhaps 2 red cards since Christmas so our very bad disciplinary record did improve after. Was Finley’s red card home to PV in December his last one? Was it the last one since Coutts red at Rochdale?
Our record of red and yellow cards has been poor and it nearly cost us but looking at what’s happened since Christmas has been one of the changes that has turned us into a very good side.

Fair play, 3 of 4 of these turned out to be great and key reasons for our promotion.
Overall recruitment in the summer was good. Strange to think the preferred formation we recruited for was a 3-5-2 when we ended up with no decent (fit) wing backs and no one to play up top!

Maybe it is easier to pick up bookings in a side playing poorly? Yes probably. Just as I’m sure frustration causes a lot of the cards gained for dissent. I bet every League club has its wind-up merchants and players who go out of their way to act up and get their opponents to lash out etc. UTG! |

3 brilliant signings out of the 4. An excellent return. True, and a bad signing that cut his losses and left, rather than one that stuck around bleeding the club dry as has happened before. Fair play to Hughes. Hope he does well in the coaching game. |

I'm sure the welcome to league 2 from all our opposition managers involved a team talk going along the lines of, wind them up. Its taken time for our players to learn not to react but the protection from refs has been non existant. Some of the antics I've witnessed, standing on feet, elbows to ribs/face, spitting, pinching!? Will definitely be glad to see the back of this side of the game. Coutts and Finley both have a fiesty side, I'd rather have players like this than whimps but you have to except the inevitable suspensions!

I saw Hughes play in the pre-season game at Melksham and his attitude to the young fans was fantastic, he couldn't do enough to make their day special, even signing autographs in a lull in the action.
I think we never got to see the best of him due to injuries.
Fair play to JB, he said he was signing winners, and that's exactly how it ended up.
