But the Dons are only paying 25% or £1,250 a week/£65k p.a, I assume we could go to £2k p.w./£100K p.a if we thought his goal would get us promoted?? We'd be knackered though if we didn't go up and he turned into JJOT Mk2!!

Especially as it sounds like he's looking for a long contract

yeah. sod that. That's what got us into this mess. As someone else mentioned we might be able to offer Bournemouth more than the Dons are paying him, BUT why would someone who wants to put himself in the shop window (for the summer when his contract is up) come to us on non-lge. The alternative is that we would have to offer him something NOW that was worthwhile to all parties and longer term than the remainder of his Cherries contract. Can't see that happening. The betting is surely on him going on loan to any lge 1 or maybe lge 2 club who will pay 50% of his wages and put him in the shop window.

Quite happy with what we have thank you very much. 5k a week my arse.

Even if we could get Tubbs for something in the region of 2k a week, I'm not sure I'd want to bring someone in who'd likely be on 3/4 times as much as the players who have worked their nuts off to get us in this position so far (Sinclair, Mansell, Taylor etc.).
There is a brilliant togetherness and spirit in the squad atm, and I'd hate a 'big name' to come in and upset that in any kind of way.
Yes we need to strengthen in January, and someone with the goalscoring ability of Tubbs being added to the squad would be a massive boost, but I'm not sure he's the way to go on those sorts of wages.

Oh dear! Let's look back at the review and learn from previous mistakes!
We are pushing for the top spot - not sure I'd tinker too much. One in on 5k a week and the blokes who got us in the top two will want a pay rise!!!!

It's also the kind of striker who would get you out of this division and will score goals in league two.
This is something we cannot say about our current strikers.

What about Mildenahll & co who could already be on £75k I can't see that's effected team moral? Anyway if players are going to get upset bacause some are earning more then surely they are in the wrong job? If we can get Tubbs for £2k a week how much will we get repaid if his goals then take us back to the FL the £1m we're apparently down this season??

Make him an offer we can afford,if he turns us down move on. There is no way his next contract will be five grand a week, whoever he signs for

And more than a few financial risks.

When in the history of football has a Championship/2nd Division player joined a non-league club, voluntarily, and not because he's cr*p, but because he's good?
I think this whole story is a bit of PR blarney dreamed up by various people looking for publicity for Tubbs and ourselves.
Hope I'm wrong though.

This wasn't a slur on our strikers. None of them have league experience. Tubbs is a proven goalscorer in the league. Should have made that more clear.

I disagree with you on that one, both Taylor and Blissett are both young and are more than capable at this level. L2 clubs were in for both before we snapped them up.

Offer him £2000 per goal, whatever shirt number he wants ("No, Matt you can't choose 69. Grow up.") and first choice of peg in the dressing room.
