I’ve stood in the same spot at the back of Thatchers End nearly every game this season and it’s normally rammed to the point you’re stood on someone’s toes for most of the game.
After the 6th went in the whole section emptied and went to the bottom of the terrace, it was so obvious what was going to happen once the 7th went in!

People enjoying a few too many drinks before a game are more likely to run onto the pitch when the tension of a game is broken by an important goal. I've never run onto a pitch myself but I understand that it can be hard to control emotions at critical times.
I reckon the best thing to do is for the stewards to accept that they've no chance of preventing pitch invasions and instead focus on making an effective corridor for the players to leave the pitch.
In the case of final day celebrations, the players can then return once the stewards have made it safe to do so.

Or create the line across the halway marker so that both sides can thank their respective fan bases in a degree of safety.

I see the Forest fan who attacked Billy Sharp has been jailed for six months and has been given a ten year ban from attending any football matches.

Charge of illegally entering the playing surface dropped. Fair enough as that is small fry and you'd have to charge everyone else as well. Not really sure how you can punish clubs. If one idiot wants to get on the pitch then they will. Just need to make individuals accountable

Bit of a shame all this. Some Vale fan could get harshly treated tonight with justification placed on recent events. Fans from PV and the inbreds will need to consider that before jumping over the hoardings. The police and stewards will have a free pass to batter who they like.

The problem is that celebrating on the pitch as become the norm with players of promoted teams etc happy to celebrate with the fans and so effectively encouraging them to invade the pitch, if we're going to revert back to just watching from the stands then there's got to be a fundamental change.

I'll rephrase. Why should clubs be punished for idiots and their behaviour. Individuals should be accountable for their actions. Clubs spending silly money on policing just to stop a small minority seems a bit wrong. My going rate for going to Ashton Gate and running on their pitch in the middle of a game next year is 1000 of your English pounds. In return they'll get sections closed Ahh, I'll do it for free. (Due to M.S. I won't get over a perimeter wall, didn't think that through)

I think the authorities have a difficult decision to make, most people seem to like a good pitch invasion to celebrate a promotion/big cup win. However the law states it is a criminal offence to enter the field of play at any time… what should happen?
So thousands have broken the law this season?

Pyro, Drunk and Disorderly, Drugs, Foul and Abusive language, all commonplace illegal activity at most games through a season.

They would have to prosecute about 7000 for running on the pitch at the end of the game last Saturday. Same offence as running on at any point during the game. Not feasible. They have to find another solution.

Make the punishment for running on the pitch much stiffer e.g. automatic 12 month incarceration and a life time ban, should put a few off
