They were acting 'normally'. For many, family life has broken down. Where are all the dads? Poor upbringing, poor education, poor life prospects all lead to poor citizenship. The "3 Rs" dictum has long had another two: right and wrong. And it's not the responsibility of a school to teach these. The problems and issues in society are essentially spiritual. When we all do what we want, community breaks down. "Let us consider our ways and return to the Lord." Lamentations 3:40 The Bible. "Where are all the dads?" - you sound like Maggie Thatcher in the 1990's, when single parent families were considered the root of all evil. At the Man City game one Dad was taking photos of his young daughter on top of the cross bar! At some grounds the latest thing is for Dad to lift a youngster over the barrier, so that they can run onto the pitch to harrass a player for his shirt at the end of the game. Neither of these are setting a good example to the child. My husband walked out when my son was 13, and had no involvement apart from a couple of hours a week, when he could be bothered to turn up - this was a real shock to my son, as he'd previously been a doting father. That didn't prevent my son being taught the difference between right and wrong though, and growing up to be a decent person - I didn't need the help of the church or anybody else to ensure that, I just passed on the values which my parents had taught me.

I took care never to criticise me ex to my son, which required some very firm biting of my tongue at tims, although, now that he's older he does know what I went through. We went to live with my parents for a while, and they always invited the ex in for tea and cake on the occasions when he did come to pick our son up. Lovely that your son is an inspiration to you, he sounds like a very special young man. Take care.

The fan who headbutted Sheff Utd's Sharpe had just bought a house with his girlfriend and was, apparently, earning £50K+ as an electrical engineer. I doubt he can blame not having a father figure for his crime?

A few people thought the police at Walsall overreacted. Not the case IMO. One of the lads taken away shouldn't have even been allowed in as couldn't even stand properly. Pretty sure he was 'spotted' early on as a potential one to keep an eye on. It's been said that intelligence is a bit behind as due to the period of covid closed grounds they've had to start afresh on spotting potential flash points/trouble makers Some people will feel that the police over react. If you've gone to the game as a law abiding supporter, to get kettled and shoved around by the police due to a handful of rowdy yobs, you are entitled to feel that way too. Causes more problems than it solves half the time. You can pick out troublemakers and deal with them separately from the majority who want to enjoy the game. can you really? Wow

If there are serious discussions around alcohol at games(which there should be imo), I can't see how a handful of people should ruin that for hundreds of thousands? They will also be running the numbers and I'd guess there's significant revenue to be made here. Not just for drinkers to drink more, but for those who don't drink at this time who will have one whilst watching the show. With the allowance, will come some control measures. These last few arrests should get punished to send out a message too. If alcohol is the problem or a concern, then the discussion should be more on stopping people who are obviously drunk, from getting into the ground. It's obvious though that drugs, pack mentality, lack of deterrent are key contributing factors here. Alcohol & cocaine is the heady mix I bet these idiots who attacked players took . Cocaine , when used responsibly, is a wonderful drug ...

It's not as if the force doesn't have access to cctv, prior intelligence, liason officers, undercover operators on trains, in service stations, vantage points, int from pubs, taxi drivers, online chat rooms and Facebook etc. Nah, just kettle everybody including elderly, women and kids because a tiny minority of d1ckhead5 got a bit rowdy in the crowd. Still, if you think that's the best strategy and I'm acting lofty, fill your boots 😘

Are these regular supporters or just glory hunters?
It could be the banned fans have just turned up since Exeter H and have now caused serious problems.
Try marketing Rovers at a new business pitch and this is on the headlines.
Even in this day and age there are some parents that don't want their children exposed to violence, drugs and even bad language, so the club may lose out of some family supporters for ever.
If they are banned for 5 years, then they should pay the club for 5 years worth of season tickets for compensation and damages.
And maybe when it is really cold and wet they should do community service type programme selling and let the likes of Sue on the Mem gates have a well earned breather. (Without trying to make these fans sound guilty of all ills, I would make sure that the monies were actually collected by someone else though). I am sure there must be lots of dogsbody jobs that they could do - paint the yellow lines on terracing etc
