I see newly promoted Stockport have just given a 5k a week contract to a striker. That is serious money for the lower leagues. Shows what we are up against.

Similar to Salford when they reached the football league, silly salaries paid by the rich benefactor.
If I remember correctly they paid Rory Gafney a four figure weekly salary and one player from Scotland was reportedly on £5k.
Salford not exactly setting league 2 on fire and when the benefactor and the class of 92 get bored they will return to non league obscurity.
For the fans it’s a case of enjoy the journey whilst it lasts.

Normally I think the free market should be left to decide what people get paid but it has been stupid for years now...
...time to get it sorted out and regulated one way or another.

I see he is now plying his trade & scoring goals in Ireland for Shamrock Rovers.

Im all for clubs being in the league on merit which they are, they won the play offs. But apart from the publicity of the ‘Class of ‘92 I can see no great clamour for League football before they came along. Crowds of around 200 in the northern leagues. UTG!

If Salford had organically made it into the league most lower league football supporters would have an appreciation for what had been achieved. Problem is in English football it is all too easy to buy success right now.
