But when have fans ever been given free water at the Mem? The toilets I use don't even have any running water!! Im sure someone will correct me if this is incorrect. I understand that access to clean water is classed as a human right in the UK. I think that is why even if you dont pay your water bill they can not cut you off. So in theory if somebody knocks on your front door and politely asks for some water to drink you are expected to oblige. .... and while the old lady is getting them a glass of water, his/her mate nips in and nicks any small valuables.

If she is dopey enough to leave the front door open and wander off i guess thats feasible. It's a well known scam. People of the (much) older generation are often very trusting, and I know that my Mum may well have fallen for this when she lived alone, as she always wanted to help people.

Why on earth would you expect free water to be given out to fans? Concern, decency and just being kind, off the top of my head

If she is dopey enough to leave the front door open and wander off i guess thats feasible. Dopey enough? Indeed! It's a sad fact that a lot of elderly people have to live alone, and may not have their wits about them, as they would have in their younger days. My Mum's shaprness declined quite quickly after Dad passed away, she is now safe and lives in a wonderful care home.

Really glad you have confidence in the home as i had true hell where they put my mum, by force, and i had to take action as far as going to the ombudsman and making an official complaint. The place has been on TV and is now under very close scrutiny. There treated resident like crap, left them alone for sometimes over a day and the rooms were a horror. Once i got mum into another and truly lovely place, life got much better and mum didn’t even want to come back home as she called it her hotel. An awful period for us both and the council were complicit in so much. Anyone reading this, stay clear of oak tree care home if looking at places.

That's slightly different than to roll up on Tuesday night and expect the club to be handing out free bottles/cups of water to fans? In all the years I've been attending games I've never known Rovers, or any other club for that matter, hand out free drinks of water.

I have in 1982 While queuing for hours at Twerton for Liverpool fa cup tickets Rovers staff Angela, Eve and Graham etc came out with cups of tea, coffee and squash. Some even got a bacon roll having camped over night to secure tickets. A wonderful gesture by rag bag Rovers. Manager Denis Rofe came and spoke to fans.

Sorry that you went through that, was always my biggest fear about Mum going into a home - glad that you did find a good place eventually. Mum has been there over 10 years now, and some of the staff are still there, they have a wonderful ethos at the home, which all staff seem to buy into. Back to going cashless, I remember when Mum first started using a bank card, she was 80, when we took her shopping she would often tell the cashier her pin by mistake instead of tapping it out on the keypad.

I know the plan was to make the Mem cashless but have the club recently confirmed this is the case? I know it was mentioned in the programme towards the end of last season, but other than this thread, I haven't seen anymore about it and can't remember hearing anything from the FC. I bet a lot of people (not forum/Twitter users etc) will be caught out on Tuesday and if the club don't officially confirm anything by FGR, it will be absolutely chaos. Imagine someone not in the know suffering from dehydration, queuing up for a cold drink on Tuesday and then being told they can't be served! It could lead to health implications. I assume fans can have access to free water somewhere? I wouldn't fancy playing cricket in the 7pm temperature on Tuesday, let alone football. For players safety, I would assume that there will be regular drinks breaks during the match? If I was standing behind that person in the queue, I would offer to pay with my card and let them give me the money, I'm sure lots of other Gasheads would do the same. I have seen various reminders about going cashless, in the days before the internet, the local paper or Radio Bristol was the only source of information in the close season, and we seemed to manage ok. I think we have digressed. I personally have not seen any mention of the Mem going cashless other than here. Out of interest, where have you seen the club mention this Tilly? and is this medium available to fairweather, newbie, or away fans who would not necessarily go out of their way to look for this information? I don't go on line everyday so may have missed it being advertised. On Tuesday, I am sure there are lots of supporters who would swap cash for paying by card to help a fellow fan, but would a jobsworth agency staff person behind the counter be so helpful? The issue is that lots of fans don't know anything about it. Last seasons programmes and 50/50 tickets were cash only and the pasty huts and bars had cash sales. If they are totally going to change the policy, surely it would have been very simple for the club website to officially advertise this a few weeks ago, together with a reminder a few days before the Stoke and FGR games? Tuesdays weather is exceptional, that's why I mentioned free drinking water. I would not expect it to be the norm. I would hope the club would have the fans safety in mind.

I assume the club will publish an article this week on the OS confirming ticket prices etc for Tuesday night and also confirm if the Mem is going to become cashless this season.
Assuming Tuesday's game isn't just now played behind closed doors, given the heat issues for both staff and fans.

You obviously did not attend games at the Mem for the last two months of the season. Notices were in the bars and a the food kiosks around the ground stating the fact and the date in July when it would take effect. It was even put on the clubs website and is also on there in the home and away fans guide to the Mem.

The guides don't seem to have been updated for this season as they both still show the family stand, and they both just state fans should try and use cashless, not that the stadium is now solely cashless.

Since the season finished, I would have seen it on Twitter, Instagram or the club website. I admit that I do go online regularly, so am more likely to pick these things up than supporters who are more occassional browsers.

In the interest of research, I went to a gig with 100,000 people that was entirely cashless. No messing about with change or cash machines, nobody worrying about not having a choice. It'll become the norm very quickly, I'm sure it is at many/most gigs and sports events these days. I bet there were a tonne of 80 year olds at that gig too. I go to punk gigs and festivals and there are loads of oaps using cards. If you are struggling I'm happy to help

I'm 72 and still aware enough to notice signs printed on A4 paper in the bars, toilets and kiosks around the ground in the last two months of the season. I have mentioned it previously on this thread. I always carry some cash and cards when I am out and about and personally don't see what the problem is. No doubt initially the club will take cash but for obvious reasons would prefer cards.

There have been posters and notices throughout the club - on the walls and in the bars and on the stalls etc since late March / early April…. As you say it was also put on the os… I can see why some are reluctant or don’t necessarily want to go cashless but from the clubs perspective it reduces so much risk and also ensures accounting and other behind the scenes processes are much more straight through and quicker
