There was some serious mayhem around those times with Cardiff, normally outside the ground if I remember rightly.
Never really came on the Tote . I think Chelsea are alone in the honour of having successfully achieved that.

I have two strong memories of the atmosphere and antics of Cardiff fans back in the late seventies /early eighties. I was a teenager at that time and started going in the Tote, with some mates or sometimes on my own. At one of these games, I was standing in the middle of the Tote probably waiting for my mates and I noticed a load of lads standing next to me (10 -12) some of them had a bit of yellow in their scarves, which I thought was a bit odd. I started to eavesdrop their conversation and thought they've got strange accents ( LOL !!). A few moments later they had migrated to the bottom of The Tote - low and behold they started chanting Cardiff ( Kayardiff Kayardiff !!). Rovers fans started piling down - they hopped over the fence and were escorted round to the open end - they did it as a dare to goad Rovers supporters - quite eye-opening.
My second memory - don't know if it was the same game was waiting for a bus home on Stapleton Road ( not much fun when on your own cos the away fans travelling by train would always be escorted along the road). That day there was a mass of cardiff fans being escorted and I clearly remember teenage Cardiff fans wearing minor's helmets !! They also were pretty aggressive to me and I was praying the Police escort wouldn't let them break through. Always loved the cardiff games - matches were usually spicy too - and I think we used to have a very good record against them - Paul Randall's heyday !!

Remember that day well, I was 16 and it was absolute carnage everywhere. Walking past the Railway tavern in Patchway and seeing 2 coach loads of Cardiff meat heads beginning to act up( well before lunch time ) Got in the Tote early about 2ish and it kicked off. Only pensioners and kids, so no resistance. Cardiff then walked down the pitch to the open end and I remember a rovers fan jumped out of the North enclosure (solo) and started wading into one of the boyo's. Gave the welsh man a bit of a hiding as well, think they called him Punky....well he was one of the last Punks around at the time. Saw some serious disorder that day, can't really say too much else......know what I mean geezer, proper nasty.

I don't really remember that game in particular. I would have been there though. I didn't miss a home game in those days.
I remember going to Cardiff for a morning kickoff. We won 1-0 with a David Williams goal. And another time for an evening kick off. I think that would have been on a Bank Holiday near the end of the season. There were Cardiff fans in our enclosure wearing Rovers scarves.
I hated that car park at Ninian Park too. Crossing it from the coach to the ground was a nightmare.
I do remember this day though.

I was about 11 then, wasn't allowed in the Tote. Had a good view from the seats in south stand though, that's as close as I could get.

At one of those Cardiff matches, aged 16 ish, me and a mate were going underneath the underpass on the big roundabout and were stopped by about 8 skinheads, who simply said 'Rovers or Cardiff!?
Thought it was best to get a kicking from Cardiff than a wrongful one by my own fellow fans so answered 'Rovers'.
Fortunately I chose correctly and was allowed to continue unscathed.
Sh*t myself mind.
