Surely the reason he never got a look in was due to other strikers being seen as better options, including Leon Clarke? If Lofty doesn't have a good pre-season I can see him moving on, assuming he hasn't already decided to move on. How many games did Leon Clarke play in, just saying Just 11 games which makes it all the more worrying JB risked playing an injury prone player ahead of Loft. If we really looking to now sign Norwood or a similar high profile striker then Loft is unlikely to start many games this season.

Never got a lot of game time last year and wonder how he will be used this year ? He was more of an impact sub last season but no doubting he has ability. What are thoughts on how he will fit in to the new Rovers team this season ? I reckon he will be 2nd choice to a new signing. He's a big lad, will have a full preseason with the squad, so should be fit and firing for the start of the season. His goal and celebration at Vale park showed he cares and is popular with the squad.

Maybe we should give the bloke a chance before we decide he won't cut it. He arrived got injured early on and then couldn't force his way into a team that was absolutely flying. He has all the attributes to be a handful and his goal at Vale showed there is something there to work with. JB might sign players who play ahead of him but equally a good pre season could see him force his way in. I'd be surprised if we are looking to move him on, wasn't it stated he was a signing for the future as well as the present ??

He was played in but he had to finish it off with a defender in attendance. I hope he’s give a run of games to show what he can do. He’s had no chance so far for understandable reasons with JB not wanting to change a winning combination in League 2. Now it’s different. Time will tell. UTG!

Not sure "struggled in L2" is fair personally. He barely got a look in and clearly lacked fitness. Obviously entirely possible he will "flop" so to speak, but I think it's far too early to make that call just now. His finish against Vale wouldn't have been out of place in the Premier League. Not like you to sit on the fence. Maybe learning from past errors? Not sure I’d call that sitting on the fence. And incredibly rich of you to talk about “learning from past errors”.

So on a couple of occasions JB felt that Clarke was a better option for a certain situation. I'm not sure why that should make any difference to whether Loft may or may not feature this season.

You would think he's got a clean slate now that pre-season is here, he's got the chance to be at the same level as everyone else, but I still think we should be in the market for someone with more league one experience (whether thats Norwood or someone else remains to be seen).

I think he'll be here and get a chance (as someone else said, the number of allowed subs will mean he probably gets decent chance at appearances if not starts). But if someone offered us the £50k we paid and he wants out, then of course he'll be gone

Little wrong with the blokes technical ability. Just needs a lot more assertive/ aggressive desire for the ball in position.
This can be coached but several have likely tried.

He was hardly ever fit but to be honest he’d have been an option off the bench for any team in the league when he was.

Lofty was fit, but not Barton fit, his peak was good for 30-45mins. Thats not really his fault to begin with, but as we saw with Luke Thomas, if you arent 100% on the money in a high press team like ours is, you wont succeed and it takes 6 months or so to hit those levels. Leon Clarke would have had a good base condition together with his muscle memory to work from. He also had the experience to fall back on. We kind of saw the same with Jermaine Easter and previouslly Mark Walters. So I can see why JB would use Clarke over Loft.
I think we will see a much fitter and endurance based Loft this season which will play to our strengths and be a good foil. No doubt about it though, he needs a strong PS to play himself into the 11.

Physically the lads in peak shape, we saw that in the post Scunny changing room celebrations. But as you say, maybe not Barton fit in terms of cardio & endurance. A full pre season under JB’s team will do him the world of good.

Lofty was always signed with a view to playing a larger part this season…. I do think with a full pre season with us under his belt that we’ll see more of him and as shown by his goal at Vale he has the technique and skills to be a strong asset for us imo
