Was that Chris Zebroski up front for Melksham first half?! It looked a bit like him, but I'm not sure.

Was that Chris Zebroski up front for Melksham first half?! Our lot were convinced. Not sure he touched the ball in the entire 45mins. Must’ve been him then! 😂

Sounds like we did a good job tonight. In fact softened Melksham up for their game at home to Swindon tomorrow!

Had a lovely evening, Melksham Chairman had kindly reserved a couple of seats for us. A good run out for Rovers, nice that nobody showboated or took the p*ss. The Melksham goal was like a Beckham special, a long lob over Jed Ward - back of the net. Very nice set up they've got, I hope that this continues to be a regular pre-season fixture.

Just back from the game - as others have said a decent run out for us and decent goals on show. It was pretty comfortable for us throughout although both Jaak (1st half) and Ward (2nd half) had to pull off a decent save…. Players who shone the most for me tonight were Collins and Greenslade who linked well together and whilst not 1st team ready, I thought Lawrence looked tidy - I’d expect to see him in the trophy games and to probably get a loan this season….. 2nd half I thought Gibbons, Evo and Saunders looked sharpest and special mention for the 16 yr old who played CB as apart from his intercepted pass for their lobbed goal, I thought he played well and looked confident and strong and didn’t get bullied at all by the older more physical type Melksham forwards.
The whole team played at a decent standard but those were the players who I felt stood out that little bit more….
Oh and my daughters unbeaten run watching the gas continued again tonight! Only downer was Belshaw wasn’t there and he’s my daughters favourite player….

Corresponding friendly then if you want to be that pedantic about it in just a pre-season match thread. That's not what I was getting at. I'm just saying the first friendly of pre season tells us nothing about how far we have come, it's just a fitness exercise and opportunity to give players a chance. Just like 1-1 didn't mean we were getting relegated last season, being 5-0 up doesn't mean we're going up. Pretty certain 1-1 last season did eventually reflect how poor we were going to be at the start of the season.

Talking about your 3rd sentence, as I walked out, either Finley or Anderson were helping Tom Foley load the kit into the van. No bigtime Charlies here.

I’d agree with all that, it was very easy for us once we got the first goal, but even so it was a good work out and let’s not forget the players haven’t had a day off this week either. Gibbons seemed to slot in quite effortlessly actually. Evans was just a different class in the second half. To be fair to them their goal was easily the pick of the game, it was a great strike from just inside our half.

Great workout and impressive signs for the first pre season match
One or 2 worries I do have regarding Barton’s post match presser are injuries.
Belshaw still having injections in his knee Isnt a good sign. He was having those towards the end of last season obviously has a long running issue going on in there which I’d have hoped would have been sorted in close season.
Rossiter. Described by joe as having a calf niggle. That is very worrying as a calf Injury has previously kept him out for almost 2 whole seasons.

As far as I could see, zero injuries from those who actually took part last night. So that’s a win. Except their scorer, who pulled a hamstring lobbing Jed😂🤦🏻

This fixture has become bit of a tradition now and is a very enjoyable chance for fans to get close up and personal to the squad, Melksham pull out all the stops to make the team and fans welcome and in return are rewarded with a good crowd which i am sure generates some welcome pre season revenue for them, good stuff all round.

Agreed mate, but remember last season when players had niggles, fitness issues etc, as time went on our team of coaches and physios work their magic making us the strongest fittest team around. I expect all the new boys to be slow out the box as Lofty was. Joey seems to have a personnel and system in place that improves the lads markedly, but it does take time 👍🏼

If he didn’t he’d be playing a lot higher level. Its belshaw that’s concerning the fact he’s still having injections in a knee that was causing him problems during the second half of last season isn’t great. I’ve had many injections for sports injuries over the years and they just mask over the problem never fix it.

Can we play you every week (pre season)
Anyone know if Yate Town and Bath City have friendlies against Rovers as they have helped the club considerably over the years. Even Man Utd deserve a visit from us as Cossham Street has declined a lot and needs ground improvements and a healthy Gas turn out would help sustain them.

We're at Twerton Park on Tuesday evening, and are also sending a team to Chippenham at the same time. Hopefully I'm heading to Twerton Park, always good to relive memories, and looking forward to seeing Chris Lines play.

We’ve got a very good medical team now but only so much you can do with some players.
