Somewhere on here I read that someone did not know anything about Helpline.
I believe it started in 1985 as a fans initiative, based on Bolton's scheme, as the club were losing money every week and this was a way to boost income. The losses then (a few grand a week) were nothing like the losses the club make now. Thank God for Wael.
I believe Martyn Radenadge has been organizing it ever since. (A well deserved and belated supporter of the year?) And I think it is still only £2 a week?.
My mate joined because Steve White and Mike England came round his house asking him to join. They did this in their own time and expense, just to help keep the club afloat.
In years gone by the annual party was a sell out and the players were amongst the last to leave and were Helpline members themselves.
I am pretty sure that Helpline has raised over a million quid for the club and the prizewinners. In the days before Wael this was literally a club saver, similarly to the 50/50 and the sharescheme.
I am sure someone better qualified than myself can provide more information, but hopefully this raises the profile a bit.

I remember the launch at the then Crest Hotel at Hambrook.
Peter Osgood was there along with a comedian who continually referred to Rovers director Vernon Stokes as "Vermin."

Helpline is still going I've been a member for over 10 years now Being exiled in Cambridgeshire, it's always been my way of giving something to the club as I cannot attend many games There is some more info on the club website (Albeit not much) here: www.bristolrovers.co.uk/fans/helpline/Kate who helps run it is lovely and always happy to help if you need anything I've won the "top" prize twice - It used to be a £500 holiday voucher for Thorntons Travel, but since they went bust, it's now a £500 cheque Also won several lots of shopping vouchers ranging from £20 - £150 You also get priority on tickets over general sale (although after season ticket holders I believe?)

I raised the issue of Helpline and Share Scheme members' ticketing rights on a different thread last week, and phoned the club. I see that the information about away ticketing rights on the website has now been updated to say that Helpliners and Shareschemers are still category one with ST holders. Fair play to the club for getting it right IMHO in the end

You have to agree to share your membership data with Ticketmaster KP, but when I spoke to Kate last week she said that this had all been done for members. I'm sweating on Pompey tickets as it's twenty minutes down the road for me

Yes I suppose that's it, but it seems to be the only option on offer now. The standard one at £30 seems to have vanished and the £40 one is described now as Standard Membership.

I get what you are saying, regarding the difference in money paid, however, I'm sure that the club would get slaughtered if they dropped Supporters Club members out of Category 2.
