Unfortunately I will miss the season kick off (although ifollow might be possible) but still excited for a week today! Concerned at our lack of CB cover but if Hoole and Connolly have to do a job against FGR I am sure they can. Let’s get off to a nice comfortable start with a 2-0 win. (Marquis, Saunders) #UTG

Not long now. Interesting that our last friendly is 11 days before our first league match. It’s usually 7 days. Perhaps JB has arranged an inter club friendly today between his first team for Saturday v the reserves or something.

Reckon it could be quite a good fun game, lots of players trying to force their way in the first 11.

Think we’ll see loft on after about an hour as Marquis a little behind on fitness and Saunders to come on an score! Will be interesting to see if Grant and Westbrooke get any minutes

Unless Taylor gets signed on loan midweek this is how I expect us to lineup too. Can you see Taylor signing? We’re clearly short at centre half and the fact that we haven’t signed anyone yet perhaps suggests JB is holding out on Taylor. Stoke have been recruiting and seem quite strong in that area so a loan makes sense all round - he gets tested at a higher level which gets him closer to a first team squad place at Stoke for the following season and we get a player who can hit the ground running having formed good playing relationships with the rest of our team and he understands JB’s tactics. I have no insider knowledge on Luke Thomas but I’m confident we’ll be signing him on a permanent basis in the next week or two.

Oh I can't wait to leave.

Having read JB's comments after the Stoke friendly it sounds like even he hasn't got a clue if Taylor's returning, the fact Stoke didn't even let him travel down seems odd if he might be returning. It seems from that article Hoole is being lined up as Connelly's centre back partner.

He was happy here last year, he’s struggled when living away from his roots, has had struggles with his mental health, his manager hasn’t exactly nailed his colours to the mast and given a categorical ‘not for sale’ and the local press seem to be of the opinion both expect a deal to be done.

I’ve not read or heard any reason why he was not involved on Tuesday. I just presumed he had a knock or more simply wasn’t in the squad for a friendly with only 7 subs allowed.

Let's not get carried away, survival will be the number one priority for Rovers for the upcoming season. Rovers will be severely tested in a division of several big budget clubs. There is quite a gap between Division2 and the top half of Division1. As Rovers are notoriously slow season starters, a convincing run of results is imperative for progress. Though I would love to see 7-0 wins, these results will be very few and far between. Realistically mid-table will be accepted progress for the club. Then again I might well be wrong and instead Rovers will storm the division!! UTG.

Why can't we get carried away, within reason, as being positive is surely far more enjoyable than being a total doomster?

JB said something like "he was disappointed Connor didn't even travel down for the match". As things stand I doubt we've any hope that Taylor will return, as he looks Very likely to be in the starting 11 next Saturday.

Given he didn't even play for Barnsley yesterday then, assuming he wasn't carrying a knock, a deal will probably be done shortly, hopefully we're the only club he's prepared to join.
