Somebody the players know and respect who has played at the highest level and been capped for his country.
Good addition to the coaching team and a much better backup option in midfield than Westbrooke.

Excellent and with 5 subs we may even see him coming on and then off as the game dictates in certain matches

Great news! We could really do with him on the pitch on Saturday but I’m guessing he’s not had a pre-season unless it’s been done on the quiet.

Assume he can play up till 2nd Sept at which point we have to declare our 20 man squad. I assume there is no way he can be selected after this date if not part of the squad.

Great news. Everyone wants player signings but a coach can be just an important if not more so. We all have heard the influence the likes of Whelan and Coutts had on others in the team last season.

Great news that Whelan is back. Just another piece of last season's squad returned to give us continuity. I'm sure he'll be able to help us at many junctures both on and off the pitch next season with the experience he possesses.

Fantastic news to help maintain and drive standards forward on the playing side of things. Particularly great for the likes of Egan, Greenslade, Jones, Lawrence etc. to be able to have the opportunity to benefit from Whelan's experiences.

Fantastic news, what a roll model to have for the younger players at the club , I recall an interview with our Kitman last season saying that all the players he’s known Whelo was the most professional player in the way he conducts himself that he’s come across.

I’ll say this now, watching Glenn Whelan play football is an absolute joy. Some of his passes yesterday and I’m there thinking, hang on you didn’t even look! And he splits the opposition back line pinpoint!
Then there's the way he’s constantly directing the traffic. I swear there are passages where he’s not only communicating for his next pass, he’s also communicating for the one after that as well.
When the goal went in, no celebration, he was going around the younger players in particular and grounding them.
His football is sublime and the influence on every player around him is significant.

Yes, a real class act, who knows how to play now that he can’t do it the same way he used to. He has a great football brain. We are definitely gaining the benefit of his experience. He is to our team now what Tony Craig was a few years ago.
UTG!

Delighted he came in and did a good job. I said only last week I couldn't understand simonj being so dismissive of him. Well done Glenn!
