Only two previous visits for me, neither of them a memorable 90mins!
2013/14:
The dreaded relegation season, during that run in we were a side that used to visibly be knackered all over the pitch after 60mins. When we were a goal goal against anyone half decent, you know the game was done! Two decent goals from Harrold, Smith & Woodards (our two best players) off injured in the first half. The last outing for the cursed purple kit. Oh and some bright spark at Rovers decided it would be wise to have this traditional good Friday game moved to the Saturday afternoon, knowing full well we had a bank holiday Monday game and were fully in deep s**t with that relegation battle. Farcical.
2015/16:
Another bizarre first XI pick from DC, I’m certain Liam Lawrence started and was made to look every bit the old and past it midfielder he was. Our central 4 non existent all day long. 3-0 down in no time, Browner replied with a rocket free kick but the game was well over by then. Really should’ve lost by 6/7. Did the rattler that day, was in the spoons by 10am and had a merry old time! Not that we knew it at the time, but the Season would end very well indeed😄
Perhaps someone else has fonder memories of Fratton Park visits?😂😎

I don't think there are many fond memories there tbh. Remember drawing when we should have won a few years ago, with JCH sending his second pen into row z.
Closer than a home game for me though, so will be there again tomorrow.

Closer than a home game for me though, so will be there again tomorrow. That night we should’ve left with all the points, only time I recall us dominating a game at FP. Usual story, missing a pen for 2-0 and they undeservedly bundle one over the line late on. Time to correct it tomorrow with a hard fought victory 😄

I've never done Portsmouth(a) and won't be there tomorrow either (was put off by the train strikes). I do remember being gripped to my phone when we played them in April 2014.. Matt Harrold notched twice, but Portsmouth got the winner and we were really looking over our shoulders at the relegation places. Ah well.. at least if we win at Wycombe away next week then we are basically safe....!

My first visit to Fratton was I believe the 87-88 season in the Littlewoods Cup 1st Rnd, (back then it was over 2 legs). We won 1-0 at Twerton but went down 2-0 at Portsmouth. Please correct me if I got my season wrong

Never seen us win there, have we? But that was a great Matt H goal in ‘14 but it came with a cost. Michael Smith (or was it Lee B) injured and didn’t play again. Think it was Smith and then Lee B out for the Mansfield match. Cost us massively. That match came just after the big argument (?) between DC and JJOT who was left out I think. And I hope JCH has learnt to take penalties since the last time I was there. You could have put two more goals on top and he’d still have missed. That one was a least a decent performance in a 1-1 draw. Looking for a decent performance tomorrow and perhaps a point.
UTG!

Be warned.
Fratton Park and Bristol Rovers success do not go together.
It is over 40 years, nearly 50, since we registered a victory there.
That 2-1 win in 1975 and the 5-4 victory in 1960 are our only successful visits.
In the last 40 years we have lost 10 and drawn once in 11 visits.
Tuesday 19th February 2019 saw a 1-1 draw. JCH scored and missed a penalty.
James Clarke OG earned Pompey the point.
That match was watched by 803 Gasheads in a crowd of 17,880.
Apart from that evening we have scored just 5 goals and conceded 23 goals in 40 years of trying.
On 9 occasions out of 22 at Fratton Park Pompey have scored 3 or more goals against us.
In 14 of those 22 visits we have failed to score.
A daunting task lies ahead.
Barnsley was a bad day at the office. The history book suggests another one tomorrow.
Good job the match is not played in a library. UTG.

I was at the 1975 match,I remember it was a real backs to the wall performance and Jim Eadie saved a penalty ,I think with his legs. Same result again tomorrow would be nice.

F*ck me, seems like every away game this season we’re on here saying ‘we never do great there!’
Are we just sh*te?

Haven't been away to Pompey since 92/93.
Boxing Day game we got battered 4-1, Vaughan Jones got sent off and Guy Whittingham & Paul Walsh ripped us apart.
It looked like we had turned a corner, winning 4 straight games after Malcolm Allison had replaced Denis Rofe, including a 4-0 win over City.
This put us firmly back in our place and we went on to only win 3 more games all season to finish rock bottom of what is now The Championship.
Who'd have thought we'd never be back at that level since?

Went to Fratten Park in 1978. The Den at Millwall was closed after some trouble and they had too play home games 120miles away. So it was Millwall v Bristol Rovers in Portsmouth. What could possibly go wrong ! As you can imagine quite a lot, but We did win.3-1.The only time I have seen us win in Portsmouth. Also saw us play Portsmouth in a home game at Ashton Gate in1980 league cup after the south stand fire at Eastvile That was like a away game. Think that was 0-0.

This was my last game at Pompey as well,my mates Dad drove but got stopped by the Fuzz reversing up the hard shoulder, he was let off because was driving a bunch of young delinquents, and was a teacher. Terrible day out. Tomorrow will be better, UTG
