Depends on where we go usually for me, since I am with an old boy who can't stand up for the whole game, considering im the furthest row back & quite central tomorrow I know full well he won't last the whole game stood up (that's obviously what happens at the back). So sort of unsure what to do as it's a sell out. Somwone will always offer up their place to someone else with an obvious need at an away game. I think your right. For every obnoxious aggressive tosser ( and all clubs have them ) there’s a hundred really nice genuine people that would always look out for their fellow supporters.

Just sit in your seat. This thread is about some people who just go to the best seats they are not entitled to and trying to bully those who should sit in those seats, all on the 'football is different and we should go anywhere we want banner'.

I remember some Rovers infighting at that pompey away game in 2014. Many in the front rows insisting on standing up (in my view bit of a dick move) as plenty half way back including children and elderly were sat down. Police had to wade in and break up various scuffles just to my left side. Proper embarrassing.
In general though I’m a sit or stand where ya like dude. Even in a sell out game, only takes one to stray to another seat and the entire thing is shafted.

I suppose it all depends on what game it is.
If it's a Tuesday midweek away at Barnsley where only a few hundred will be there and there's probably 2k empty seats it doesn't really matter.
If it's a Wembley Final, big game, local derby or where you know its going to be a biggish allocation it's a bit different.
As the thread title suggests, use etiquette and general common sense.

I don’t think it’s the biggest crime to not sit in your seat on an away day, especially if you’ve got mates or people you’ve bumped into that you want to sit with.
However, if someone comes along and says “That’s my seat” then show a bit of decency and move on. If everyone can do that and be respectful then there’s no problems at all.

I don’t agree with that at all. Which seats are the best seats ? Why are they the best seats ? Aren’t all the seats pretty much the same plastic things that stay down when you sit on them and slap up when you stand up ? Every match has different people at it . Every match is at a different stadium Every match situation is different. I think you’re liking football to theatre , the cinema etc which the majority in here and I think the majority of football supporters would agree that it isn’t.

I think people should sit where their tickets say so. Like others have said there are families etc that book their tickets together and don't want to split up by people who just want to do what they like. If you are late to booking a ticket and end up in a corner then that is on you.

Personally like the standers go to the back, sitters go to the front etiquette that seems to work on most away days.

Intrigued, would you sit just anywhere in the theatre, or cinema, if likely to be full? What about your seat when we get to Wembley? What about on a train where you may end up sitting in a seat already reserved, and may be a less abled prrsons'. Airplane, where sitting in the wrong seat could see you offloaded if a fuss was made. No I wouldn't mate, however you can choose where you sit then, for example at portsmouth tomorrow we got given a seat and couldn't select it, where as for a cinema or plane obviously you can choose one. Respect your opinion👍🏻 Yes you could, you just had to hit the allocate new seat in same area button until you got what you wanted. It worked its way forward along each row.

As its against EFL rules to stand in a seated area im assuming nobody here is breaking the rules .
So the question is..... Does the EFL make the rules or do people make their own rules up ?

I do not understand why people find it so hard to say in an allocated seat at a football stadium. It’s just our fans probably as we’re not used to sitting.

The EFL have sold their soul and the soul and heritage of English football down the river far too many times for me to give a fu*k what they think to be honest. But I’ll always respect my fellow supporters and if I’m stood in front of someone’s seat I’ll always move for them to sit down. Up The Gas and long live the history and future of the English game and it’s atmosphere.

Due to mobility issues I try and get a front row or end of row seat so I'd be annoyed if someone else was sat in it. A lot depends on allocation, if we have 2000 in an area that holds 3000 I'd expect a steward/official may say, 'pick a seat' as they'd be enough for people like me to pick from. If full up sit where you're meant to as a family may have booked seats together. Is it really that difficult to sit in your allocated seat?

Sit in your allocated seat until 10 minutes after kick off, any empty seats should by then be free which you can then go to.

I’ve got no problem with wanting to sit in your allocated seat, just don’t be that person that demands to sit at the back of the stand where people will want to stand and sing when there’s multiple spaces in front.

So do the supporters who want to sit in any seat regardless at away games do the same at home games? Or is that different! It’s possible to buy tickets in groups so the excuse of my mate is over there is limp. Just sit in your own numbered seat when the allocation is 95% filled. It’s not difficult

Let’s look at the utility of this.
What’s good for the collective.
We are there to enjoy the game. We also play a part in making noise to support the win.
Making noise needs groups of mainly young and middle aged super fans being drunk and huddled together.
It’s not practical for all these people to link up and buy tickets in a group. A lot don’t even know each other.
So, alternatively, we allow those who want allocated seating to have their seat. My guess, and it’s an educated one, is these are people who don’t get tipsy and sing for 90 minutes.
Thus, while I appreciate its not fair on one level that you don’t get the seat you want, it’s best for the group to allow the free for all.
The solution I can offer is that if you dearly want the seat you want, turn up early and bag it. You might even get a better one.

Anyone with a family thinking of starting to attend away games will probably think twice if they read this thread and see how many take the “I’ll sit where I like and don’t give a sh** what anyone thinks” attitude.

It’s not difficult We don't have many seats at The Mem, so it doesn't really apply that much to us does it? We can stand where we want in 90% of the ground. Home games are completely different anyway as you have more choice. If an allocation is sold out or it's a big away following then I'm sure most people will have etiquette, courtesy and use common sense.

But they can sit where they like too, it’s a moot point. I have kids, I don’t give a sh**, you can’t invoke the child victim human shield card, because it’s the same for everyone.
