He’s not wrong to be fair. This is a perfect example of someone with massive knowledge of an industry at the highest level both home and abroad. Then replicating it to a smaller business model, using his skill, leadership and knowledge to make the business bigger and better. It’s the same the world over with Cars, Vans, (my industry), to fast food, clothing, property, banking, internet whatever. Good on you Joe. Using your expertise to grow a business for the better. You then quite rightly will deserve to move on in time if you feel the need. Most great leaders will do this UTG. This is capitalism and greed as adapted to the 2020s following on from the Thatcher 80s area but with everything being business-oriented and controlled by corporates with corrupt politicians supporting them. When you have a few big clubs controlling current and future players, this is like capitalist countries controlling and managing the global economies! The European Super League idea is akin to the G7 economic forum! The big corporates / clubs control the football pyramid and hierarchy in the same manner as the G7 and similar try and control the global economy. Other Lower league clubs and even some premier league clubs are akin to the so-called non-Western democracies and have to do with the scraps left for them or taking out loanees similar to IMF loans. You then develop these players for the benefit of the bigger clubs. Corruption especially at government and politicians level is also widely visible in how football organisations and the individuals controlling them conduct these organisations. So called neutral organisations like the UN, ICC, etc are powerless as seen by the UN veto available to a few countries and examples of illegal wars conducted by the bigger countries against UN consensus. Similarly, referees that are neutral and unbiased, seem to make decisions that seem to point to a favoured hierarchy eg. VAR seems to have a favoured hierarchy of: - Big 6 - London / SE Clubs - Home clubs etc. Again this is similar to how money and funding in this country is regarded as being unfairly assigned to the South East against the North. In footballing parley, why build a new national stadium in the middle of one of the most congested cities of the world that lies in one corner of this country when a Midlands venue would have made far more sense, club wise, money saving wise for clubs and fans, environmentally more friendly, etc.? To appease the rich corporates based in London? VAR used in the World Cup in Russia was so well run with very few mistakes! Was this due to the far higher quality of refereeing and / or the simple way VAR was used AND in a way that it was made visible to the fans at the ground and at home without being “hidden” in a bunker in London. Generally the standard of refereeing is so poor at all levels in this country; isn’t it about time that each match official should be made accountable for their performance after each game! The lack of game time for young professionals in the big clubs is similar to the EU mountains of food rotting away for years from a capitalist supply and demand point of view. Millions of people are starving; football fans in lower clubs want to see better football! When you see players like Elliot Anderson, Connor Taylor, James Belshaw, etc and you see their skills and talent and future potential, then the mediocrity of other players will start to drive fans away or disillusion them? When football brings politics into the game for the benefit and aims of the privileged rich and powerful democracies eg Ukraine war and the banning of Russia but ignore the illegal wars conducted by other countries, then what right do you have to question how badly the game is being run when you support this politics in the game across the whole of the West? The world is unfair; corrupt, in the hands of a few, etc . and so is this football game. It is a mirror image of how our society and therefore our game is being run. Apologies for the rant and reflections! And when Saturday Comes … the money merry go round starts again! Up The Rant UTG

Another thing they could do is stop parachute payments, it's wrong these teams get money for a couple of seasons for being relegated, it's an unfair advantage in my book. Adree with all JB says in that interview. Parachute payments are never going to affect the biggest pigs at the trough though are they? We need a complete overhaul from the very top which is what I thought the fan led government review last year proposed? In the meantime all we can do as regular fans of a club that we are connected to for reasons other than glamour or glory is to try and start to change the fashion of supporting a big club. In Bristol there are more people who follow Liverpool and Manchester U than Rovers or City. It’s that utterly pathetic situation that leaves us with the sorry state of the game we have!

Just how politics, media and entertainment work? Sheep follow wherever they are being led? Marketing promotes so called healthy products produced in factories etc. when the best foods and drinks are natural from the earth? Everything changes but nothing really changes? As Mandela? quoted and as exemplified in the brilliant Netflix film, Jana2022, nothing is usually as it seems when people get on the bandwagon? UTG

Regarding the stockpiling of players, that has been a massive annoyance and frustration for me for years now. Not sure what the solution is though unfortunately. It annoys me to. Answer: Restrict the number of full time profesionals any club can have to 22, 25. 2225?

Apologies for the rant and reflections! And when Saturday Comes … the money merry go round starts again! Up The Rant UTG Great post, hit the right notes. the result this lunch time ? I will be very honest about JB. Based on my limited previous knowledge of him as a player and the type of player that he came across as! As a manager with Fleetwood as well and their playing style. But I agree full hearted with his managerial footballing strategy and tactics since he came here. It did not look promising at first but some of the players like Connor, Elliot, Belshaw, Collins, etc. looked superb for L2 and at least Championship level. One of the finest seasons after Xmas and a joy to watch, especially away days! As regards this season, I think the team he has now with the latest 3 signings is a very good stepping stone forwards. McCormick far better in middle than wide left. Let him become the centrepiece alongside Evans? Thomas looks like a great replacement for Connor; won every header I could see? One of the best things JB has done is to clear out the “dead wood” in the club; some of the preseason signings we did in our relegation season were shocking. Basic skills lacked especially how to mark the front post at corners! I think Rovers are in a far better place than we have been for a long time? As for JB it is noticeable that he seems much calmer in the touchline! Good for him. If the world is collapsing around us, then one needs to build a “casing” or shield to protect one’s family, friends etc. plus football family? Hopefully the dire refereeing in this country can be sorted out soon? I think one of the greatest areas to address here is offside; why not put thin horizontal lines across the pitch spaced at 2/3 yards with marker flags 2/3 yards off the pitch at the end of the lines on both sides so linos can see straight across to other side when making offside decisions? The Shrewsbury game linesman on East Terrace missed 5/6 Shrews offsides in first half mostly because he was not in line and 2/3 yards behind line when ball played! Basic linesmen skill; get in line! That’s why you are called a linesman! UTG

Yes, London is so cheap isn’t it ffs How many L1 sides in London? Also, with the number of clubs in London players can move clubs without relocating. Which was another of the points in the article, with the number of clubs close to each other in NW or Midlands.

I used to chat to another Gashead in our local supermarket and argue this point with him. He just couldn't seem to see it.

Yes, London is so cheap isn’t it ffs How many L1 sides in London? Does it matter ? They still pay much higher to live there or the suburbs they normally buy in. It has always been a convenient smokescreen as to why we don’t get players. My view is that if the package is good enough then a player would make it work but that is just my opinion. Aren’t Charlton in L1 ? I don’t really follow other clubs so i couldn’t answer but i think that it may play a small part but not as big as made out
