Never really liked the pirate, a little too pantomime IMO. I did a quick prototype last night online of the skull and crossbones with a faint pirate ship as a backdrop. Stuck it up as profile pic. Would prefer to have a true pirate feel rather than the present one. That's a really good starting point, good job!
I do feel the badge has to include the quarters though, that is our identity.

I wonder what the general view of our club badge is amongst fans of other clubs ? What design they think might be good perhaps if not the current one. Might give an interesting overview for the club to ponder. The main criteria in my book would be a badge thats instantly identifiable as Bristol Rovers ,even if the club name wasnt on it. Examples being Arsenal and Spurs . Pretty sure we won an award for best badge. Wasn't there a presentation with Barry Bradshaw? I like the badge and think it only needs a minor change. The actual Pirate image could be updated (more bold and swashbuckling, rather than a silhouette?), but still wearing black and yellow with the blue and white quartered background as a nod to the history. The Pirate image appeals to kids. Not sure if it was true but there was a rumour Boycey was trying to contact Johnny Depp's agent (pre scandal of course) to get him to appear at the Mem for a game, in character which would co-incide with the promotion of one of the Pirates of the Caribbean films. I liked the Twerton era programme page headers, On the Horizon - next match, From the Crows Nest - club info, Pieces of Eight - hospitality/sponsorship etc, Walking the Plank - general football smalltalk etc, From the Captains Table - Vaughan or Geoff 20man article, Buried Treasure - old programmes review etc

I like the pirate, but a tweak would be good. Whatever happens let's not a bland corporate crest like the lot over at Trashton. Theirs is utter sh**e.

And what's the fascination with a fully round logo these days? Quite like how ours isn't as generic as every other club

Ample bland and boring badges there. EDIT: after seeing some of the sh**e logos that made top ten I can’t take that article seriously. The author seems to have a fetish for coats of arms which imo belong in the 60s. Only goes to cement my mindset our badge should be left well alone, bar a minor facelift and to perhaps make the sword stick out less.

I’m sure others have said it (can’t be assed reading everything) The skull and crossbones idea is amazing because people worldwide will love it. Kids from all 4 corners of the globe will happen upon it and think it’s the bomb. Plus as a delinquent Bristolian youth, who you going to edge towards: the crappy Robin or a *ing savage skull and crossbones? City can keep their generic Red team BS, and their cider (which is Somerset anyway, as is most of their fan base) We can have pirates and rum. Bristol has nothing to do with cider, it’s a port, from which Britain conquered the world. Rum and cutlasses. Not a bunch of inbred farm labourers rolling in bales of hay with their sisters drinking cider. We will be the authentic Bristol club and not the Somerset surrogate we have down there. Bristol port, very famous for the importing of Sherry. Not sure on an associated image. Also famous for chocolate and Concord. Should we wait to see where the new stadium is to be developed before thinking about new badge, If it had have been Filton then maybe Concord would have been apt. If the ground is South Glocs then struggling for a link for a badge. Filton is barely Bristol. The city of Bristol is the area around Bristol bridge, so unless we re name to Filton Rovers, I’m sticking with pirates. I pray with earnest fervour that we DONT build a ground in Filton, it’s a barren and gloomy place.

Quite like the idea of incorporating a ships wheel to divide up the quarters. Looking forward to seeing some of the clubs concepts

I think its a strange time to rebrand unless we are closer to a stadium than we are being told. Feels like spending money on a new fancy front door bell on a house that is falling down and the money could be better spent elsewhere.
Was at the Ground for a function on Thursday evening and looked around as I was early .... apart from the pitch the rest is seriously poor and we all know that.
The panel will probaly be made up of politically correct Julians and Juliettes who have never seen a football game between them - badge then signed off by Wael and some suits.
Would definitely keep the pirate theme - no question about that. I just hope it's not an inclusive statement badge by the club incorporating rainbows, stair lifts and anything else that is plastic but apparently now correct. ( For anything else add in your mind what you like - but know we can't print)

It's all great putting up new ideas, but this has to be stitched onto a shirt and all the merchandise.

Actually MS paint is probably over egging it. I reckon etch-a-sketch.

I just did same thing Quartered did but with an image I found online a while ago - I think it’s a really cool take on the current badge and is more centered, but still features a pirate, cutlass and a barrel of rum - ticks all the boxes for me. I have no idea who created it, so if anyone knows who created it I’d be interested to know. Anyone know how to post an image properly here?

I’m pretty dead set against changing the badge entirely but wouldn’t be against something like your profile picture. I understand our badge doesn’t quite work in EFL/TV promo material and is probably a pain in the ass with merchandise too with the blade sticking out. Evolution would be ok. id be watered off if we ended up with something w**k and/or americanised like some of this stuff brfcdirect.co.uk/collections/headwear/products/heritage-cap-royal-blue-whitebrfcdirect.co.uk/collections/mens-fashion/products/black-monogram-adult-t-shirtthat last one is one I reallllly dislike. The quarters logo is good and brings back memories of being a kid but belongs to stay as a heritage item and not our main bit of branding. something like this could be what they’re thinking of: brfcdirect.co.uk/collections/mens-fashion/products/elliptical-hoodie-charcoal

Modern design thinking out loud here
A Gas works image to incorporate a footballer in a blue and white quartered shirt running with a ball with 1883 on it.
