Firstbus are looking to remove non essential bus services, which could impact on travel times to the Mem and additional costs for users.
Many people living in St Werbughs, Stapleton and Frenchay may see no bus services at all from October and it could happen in your area soon.
I cannot guestimate the number of people who either will be unable or unwilling to take much longer and expensive journeys to get to watch Rovers, but if it is cold and wet and the only other option is by foot, or taxi, it may put off a lot of teenagers, who we need to grow the support of the club.
Many people reading this may think it doesn't effect them, but imagine if you do not live on a major route and you go for a few drinks after work without the car. Rather than a fiver on the last bus home, it might mean £20 on a taxi and that means less disposable income to spend in the bar at the Mem, so that impacts Rovers.
Please go to change.org and sign the Bristol no 5 bus petition.
If you tolerate this, your children's buses will be next.

The lack of drivers is the same the country over and all bus companies are having to cut services.
Petition away but without drivers they have very little option.
There is no escaping that many jobs just like this were filled by EU workers who the bus companies can no longer recruit.

If first bus or any other company for that matter struggle to recruit, then perhaps they should sit down and look at what they offer an employee and why it does not encourage the work force to come and work for them. It may not be just a question of salary but the overall package, work life balance, variety of routines, job satisfaction and so on, it is so easy to just say ' not enough drivers, cut services' , good luck with petition.

This bus issue is getting serious now but seems to be passing most people by - presumably as most fans arrive by car.
When I first got my free bus pass quite a few years ago now I thought I’d try getting to The Mem by bus as it would be free and I could have a drink (alcoholic). I left home at 11 and thought I’d have loads of time to get there from Bath. Ten minutes walk to the Bus Station and about another ten till the X39 was due to leave. Can’t see it on the departure list at first but there it was at the bottom - Cancelled. About twenty minutes later than planned the next bus finally leaves. Gets almost to Saltford and hits traffic. After crawling most of the rest of the way it finally arrives at Temple Meads nearly half an hour behind its schedule (which was already 20 minutes behind my plan. Walking across the road towards the incline I see a bus to The Mem depart.
Given that I passed Bath Spa train station on the way to the Bus Station and heard the announcement for the train to Bristol Temple Meads that would take 11 minutes and I’m now approaching two hours I’m not a happy bunny. I waited at the stop, next bus arrives but driver says I can’t get on yet as he has to take his break. It’s raining by now but he won’t let me into the dry.
Finally reach The Mem about 20 to 2 but no sign of my mates in the bar. This is way before The Fanzone of course and they had decided to go to The Beehive instead. I’d had a text (which I’d missed but now found). Being wet and miserable I didn’t feel like going to The Beehive and my plan was to put more much needed money into Rovers pockets anyway. I saw a familiar face and had a drink with him instead. Only one though as I know not to drink when I’m miserable through hard experience. I texted the lads at The Beehive to let them know I’d finally made it.
After the game I started walking down Gloucester Road thinking lots of buses probably go to or near Bristol Bus Station but I’d walked as far as Stokes Croft without any sign of a bus making it through the chaos. Got into the bus station and straight onto the Bath bus. Waited a few minutes and we set off. Not too bad once we were past Temple Meads but still well over an hour.
It had taken me 2 hours 40 minutes to get there and 1 hour 50minutes to get back home. It usually takes me 40 minutes each way by motorbike. At that time I was saving less than the price of a pint in petrol both ways.
I tried again last season with similar results as the Fanzone had added attractions.
However, if there were reliable faster buses I would use them to enhance my day’s enjoyment. Personally I hope the Fruit Market comes off as the train would be so convenient.
Buses need to be preserved and improved as we can’t just keep pumping more cars onto the same roads.

Nice walk to and from the ground with lots of nice pubs.

I lived in a village for years, bus services cut to once every two hours and none at weekends, it was a large village at that. The system is shot, anyway I know catch the early train to Temple Meads and enjoy the journey up the Gloucester Road.

Who's going to pay for you to travel free, as somebody somewhere has to pay. Oh gawd 🙄 OAP’s get free bus travel , not free train tickets . Yes, thanks - my point was partly about using the buses as they are free for us OAP’s (and I feel I paid for the occasional use I make of them as a 40% taxpayer from the age of 22 till 67). Using the train would cost me more than two pints even if I walked from Temple Meads. However, I’d rather forego the beer and continue to use my motorbike whilst I still can do the trip in 40 minutes regardless of the traffic and park very close. If we move to the Fruit Market I would pay for the train as it would be nearly as fast and a great deal safer. Public transport needs improving massively imo - we used to do it much better but privatisation has killed the “service” aspect. The profit from “our” buses and railways now subsidise several other countries services - mad.
