Bristol Rovers are delighted to announce the return of David Coles. Formerly the Rovers Goalkeeping Coach, David will take up a new role as Head of Goalkeeping, mentoring the goalkeepers at Bristol Rovers. David, 58, will support the delivery of the grass-based training programme and will also mentor James Belshaw, Anssi Jaakkola and Jed Ward with regard to their ongoing performance development needs. David enjoyed a 15-year playing career and was on the books of Crystal Palace, Fulham and Birmingham City. He first joined the Gas backroom staff in 2020. David will also support the recruitment department, scouting and attending matches as required. Welcome back to Rovers, David! www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/2022/september/coles-in-rovers-return/

Third time lucky for Mr Cole? You could not make this up.

Coles didn't choose to leave, Barton sacked him. Sacked or simply not offered a new contract? Hopefully we didn't pay him off only to now re-employ him. Not offered a new contract at the end of the relegation season. He quickly joined an Indian super league club and left after one season. Me thinks, seeing the number of clubs he has had, he won't be around very long.

Yes pirate, that tweet appeared at the time he left us. It omits the fact he has been at umpteen clubs for very short periods and if he is highly rated how have we managed to get him back before others jumped us in the queue?

Highly rated he ended up in India I'd probably rather trust the opinion of vastly experienced pros like Tony Parks (now Man Utd GK scout), Tony Coton (now Man Utd GK scout), Tony Roberts (Wolves and Wales GK coach), Alan Fettis (Middlesbrough GK coach) and Asmir Begovic etc, rather than bluebiro on the forum.

Odd time to come back when we have 2 experience GKs and no youngsters? Wonder if Jed is coming back and Anssi heading out? That may make more sense based on what TP said

That may make more sense based on what TP said Hungerford Town only train twice a week so I presume Coles will still be coaching him the rest of the week. He will also be scouting for us which is a good thing as I know he had his eye on some good keepers previously.
