Rovers drew 1-1 with Man Utd at Eastville in the league cup with John Rudge scoring against a team containing Charlton and Best.
Soon after, my Mum was taken to Wendover maternity hospital and I arrived into the world.
Pity I was a bit too young to travel to the replay at Old Trafford to see us win 2-1 with goals from Rudge and Bruce Bannister while Dick Sheppard saved a George Best penalty.
Less than a week old and probably the best league cup result in my whole lifetime! (Quite enjoyed the 5-5 aggregate away goals win v City in the Rumbelows Cup though!)
50 years on and I am celebrating with some mates v Palace u21s in the Papa Johns! (Surely, the Watney Cup was better!)

Happy birthday Dave!
I seem to recall we drew with them in the league only a couple of years later too.

I went to that game with my dad who only came because he wanted to see George Best. It must be easy enough to check but I seem to remember him being very disappointed because Best didn't play. Willie Morgan played instead

I was there, tremendous atmosphere inside that night to compete with a Div 1 side like United, being a Division 3 side too was such a thrill. Look at the crowd and tell me we don’t need a stadium for our fan base? Bigger than the reply, now how many Div 3 teams can say they’ve done that? And don’t forget before you say “ah but that’s now” it’s a comparing apples with apples scenario. One things for sure if we ever did get to the promised land and had a stadium to match, the fans wouldn’t let this club down UTG

Best played in both games.
I'd settle for a Jakkola penalty save and a 2-1 win by Lofty and Marquis (the modern day versions of Brucie and Rudgie?).
Hope that Palace don't have younger versions of Olise and Saha. Would be excellent to watch, but would tear us apart.
Happy Birthday by the way.

I was there. I was 10. My dad took me.We lived in Cotham and got the train down from Redland. I've never seen so many people on Redland station. It was the first time I saw the Tote End boys wearing the butcher coats. There were loads of them. Just opposite the Concord Cinema there was a wooden door to a back garden,it had 'beware of the Tote' sprayed on it. Me and my dad were in the south enclosure near to the Tote. The Tote was absoloutely packed, watching the Tote was more interesting than the game to me.

It's the memories of games like this that frustrated me when our fans were getting excited of outnumbering Woking fans at their own ground.
