With only 2 league games being played this week due to the Vase the table isnt going to change much. However in cementing a psychological gap between us and the other play off contenders I would prefer if Gateshead drew with Woking and Eastleigh drew with Lincoln. Gateshead have 4 games in hand on us and I'm expecting a reaction after their FA cup drubbing but they can't be relishing playing another tough game against a playoff contender. Eastleigh and Lincoln both have 3 games on us and Eastleigh will be facing a confident Lincoln who hammered Barnet yesterday. I know it's all about us looking up and only caring about our results but it obviously does help when the chasing playoff contenders nullify themselves and no one else drags us back into the pack. After all no matter how bullish Martin Allen is he has to now be looking over his shoulder.

I only realised it this morning but we have effectively already played 2/3rds of the season. Only 16 league games left !

all very true, but even more important that we closed the gap to 6 points just before the players have 2 weeks to ruminate on the season so far, and the matches to come. when we were 1 down to Gulls, 10 mins left and not looking like scoring, a 10 point gap would have been psychologically damaging. to be down to 6 just before the break is perfect. Our camp must be buzzing. My next BEP article stars Angus MacDonald, the man who may have saved our season

It could also spur NH/the BoD on to speend a bit more money in January, as catching Barnet/gettting straight promotion now looks possible, during the Gills game it look a long way off.
If we can beat Woking and Barnet fail to beat Grimsby they will then be under real pressure for probably the first time this season. Although we've no idea how our players will react if they ever get to the summit.

Personally I think it's a real blessing we're out of the FA Trophy. It's great to have also got through the Christmas period with nopostponements. I think we're a better side than Barnet; I really do. Defensively they are awful and aside from Akinde, they're nothing special. If we can sort out the goals to turn the draws in to wins, I really believe we'll catch them - after-all, we've lost fewer games than anyone else in the division.

I've been saying for months that when people were saying "Let's see where we are in January" in relation to Taylor or DC that that would be the equivalent of saying "Let's see where we are in March" if we were still in the football league.

Whatever happens, isn't it nice to be talking about us being in contention for automatic promotion! I can't remember the last time we could do that...

I'd never watched Gateshead before in my life but have now seen them twice in a matter of weeks and going on that I don't think they'll be a contender because they lack the passion and hunger required to stay the course. They bossed both games for 20-30 minutes with neat tip-tap football before fizzling out when pushed back. Lincoln look to be on a roll and we all know what teams on a roll can do when they get the timing right. We need to claim first spot in February/March and stay there. Be interesting to see how Barnet react to that 4-1 whalloping.

Lincoln's away form is nothing special as they have been only averaging a point a game recently, where us & Barnet have been picking up 2 pts a game. It still looks very much a two horse race depending on what happens in the transfer window. www.soccerstats.com/formtable.asp?league=england5Woking are now bottom of the form tables!

We're usually good for teams in poor form as we like to give them a comfortable win. Hopefully that's another thing that DC has changed.

I think it was WeAreTheGas who had their signature on the old forum as "Bristol Rovers - ending winless runs since 1883". Always bought a smile to my face.
