Three more points and a big defeat for Barnet- what more could we have asked for yesterday?..Perhaps a bit less fog or a little more light? Either way I am going to get my excuse in for any mistakes or bad marking because in all honesty during the whole second half it was very difficult to distinguish who was who at the far end and how good or bad some of our defending was !! As a game I would describe it as a Professional Performance with some good slick football played at times where there was only going to be one winner.
Puddy 6.5 Didn't have a worthwhile save to make but from what I saw he held the ball well on crosses and distributed brilliantly starting attacks with swift throw outs on many occasions. He actually controls his box better than Mildenhall but Mildy,I believe, is the better shot stopper although yesterday was no game to judge this!!!
Lockyer 6 Good defending, although he isn't really a full back and has limited attacking ability he,understandably looks far more comfortable on his natural side. His passing still lets him down and makes it more difficult for Gosling because he is always receiving the ball later than he should do but not many players get past him. He has played so many games now that people forget just how young he is and yet he is Mr Dependable and can cover the whole back four and midfield positions if necessary.
Parkes 8.5 MOM I hope we can keep hold of Tom in this transfer window because in recent times he has returned to his best form.Still the odd mistake in him but yesterday he tackled, marked well and then brought the ball out with great confidence and always wanted the ball.He was like an extra midfield player at times and can do this with the confidence that McCrystal will be there behind him to cover any errors.
McCrystal 8 Earlier in the season I agreed with many that his days were numbered with Trotman playing so well but now McCrystal is number 1 on merit. Gone are the suicidal mistakes and even his lack of pace is covered by his football brain and he is controlling the defence brilliantly. I imagine Trotman's time will come again but at the moment it is McCrystals shirt to lose.
Brown 7 Back in the team and showed his amazing energy by numerous forays down the wing. His final product is not always there which is a shame but he provides those runs which provides problems for the opposition full back. Defended well and always available for the excellent throw outs from Puddy and the defence as a whole unit showed why we have the best goals against in the League.
Gosling 6.5 Very much an in and out game for Gosling but that is what you come from a winger who can be by nature both exciting and frustrating. At times he looks breathtaking with the ball at his feet and the ability to go either side of the full back at others very ordinary but it has to be said that he suffers due to the service he recieves compared to Monkhouse and too often Lockyer slows the game down and when he does give Gosling the ball he is already closed down. His cross for Blissetts goal was excellent and not sure if he took the corner which led to a header which hit the bar or cleared off the line in the first half or the one which resulted in Taylors goal.
Sinclair 7.5 Excellent second half and average first half. As usual worked his socks off and totally dictated play in the second half.It seemed whenever the ball emerged from the fog it was Sinclair who was bringing it out and releasing a pass at just the right time. Showed again why he must not, under any circumstances, be played as a winger. He is the engine room and although I feel we need another creative midfielder it may be difficult to fit one in as both Mansell and Sinclair are good at the jobs they do.
Mansell 7 Manse marshalled the midfield well and as usual provided the back bone for Sinclairs performance. Strong in the tackle and good at holding his position. Some thought he scored the first goal, not sure myself as you really needed Binoculars to make out who was who.
Monkhouse 7 What a good footballer Monkhouse is, I just wish he could be in the game more often. He has the ability to retain possession and bring other players into the game and I lost count in the first half on the number of times he played Lee Brown in behind the opponents defence. He also possesses the aerial presence to win a lot of the kicks in his direction. His excellent run and cross similar to the second goal against Macclesfield should have brought another goal. I feel he could play either as a targetman or as the man in the hole or creative midfielder.
Blissett 5.5 His goal which was a brilliant attack of the cross and thunderous header and also his effort throughout the game rescued this mark in my opinion as particularly first half was quite poor and tried too many flicks that didn't come off. What must also be taken into account is his ability to defend at corners. If we can deliver more good crosses into the box I am sure that Blissett will score more goals (This one was very similar to the one he scored against us for Kiddeminster.
Taylor 7.5 Another goal to his tally and unlucky on at least two other occasions, maybe more as couldn't tell if he was the player involved in a couple of first half efforts!!
Held the ball up well as always and was always stretching the home teams back line. It would be very difficult and harsh to drop Taylor on his recent run of goalscoring form but maybe he could play in the "hole" if somebody like Tubbs signs.
Goldsberg and Harrison Not long enough to make a difference and therefore not marked.
Clarke Only on the pitch a few minutes.
DC 8 Got his team selection spot on and showed again he is willing to make difficult decisions and is very unpredictable.
Referee 9 Can't believe this!!! An efficient official, shame about the linesman but can we have this ref every week?
Nuneaton 5 Looked relegation bound unfortunately because a nice little club and an enjoyable day out.
Supporters 9 On a freezing cold day and playing against one of the bottom clubs what a fantastic turnout. Sure it was nearer 1200 than the 1000 mark.
So we now have a deserved rest with enormous credit to the players with a brilliant 13 out of 15 points over the festive period before a run of tough game starting with Woking. Lets get to Woking in our numbers and make it another home game for the lads and hopefully with three newcomers we can produce the run of results we need to really apply the pressure on Barnet.
