All that matters is we’re in the hat for the next round, never easy playing teams from lower or non-league as they have nothing to lose & results today showed that. Definitely missed the presence of either Loft, Coburn or Marquis to hold the ball up & make life difficult for their defenders. Thought Thomas & Connelly put in a good shift & looked decent together, great to see Sinclair score the winner & he oozed class at times. Hopefully Monday’s draw will give us a decent tie & we can progress into the 3rd round when the premiership sides come in.

I thought Evans done well, put some decent passes in and was looking better than other home games, Collins looked good in the second half. We missed Ryan Lofts pressing and harrying though, I hope he’s back soon as he’s become integral to our play. Also Finley played well and made my little ones day so a shout out to him. I was impressed with the right winger for Rochdale, fast and caused Gordon so many problems. Anyone half decent causes Gordon problems. He is neat and tidy with the ball but often is beat by his winger or caught out of position. Still lots to learn but young enough to develop into a good LB/LWB

What was the attendance in the end? Seemed decent for an early cup game.

Do we win the award for the shortest highlights clip of all time? And they showed the same thing twice.

Back to winning ways and in the hat for the next round, very happy with that. Setting off for the Fleetwood game tomorrow, should arrive in Bristol on Friday…..absolutely buzzing as it’s been 3 years since my last game. Massive thunderstorm predicted night before game , game very much in doubt . I could be a the first bloke ever to fly from NZ to spend a day at the Mall. 😬

So the last 10 games (all comps) reads:
DWWWWWDDLW, all in all a fantastic recent run.
A decent home win against Fleetwood next weekend would be superb and set us up nicely for the visit of Posh. Quietly confident we can creep up the table in November and December whilst everyone’s eyes are on the World Cup.

Just got back ...
*Hic*
What a lovely day. I'm thinking with less of a crowd, probably it's filled mainly with the loyal fans...? Seen some faces and chatted with a few more. From WSM to Lawrence Weston to Rochdale, the pilgrimage to the Mem on fa cup day is still special to me. A welcome break from league.
Massive respect to our friends from the Cemetery. A genuinely fine bunch, and massive respect for traveling down (in a rail strike) and adding support to their well organised outfit. I particularly like the loaded question "what do you think of JAB?" .....bla bla bla.....well I think he's a Scouse tw@t! Haha! I've stayed up in and around Rochdale, out of the trilogy of Buryrip and Oldham I think I would have been a Rochdale fan had I stayed and there was no Gas.
Onto match proceedings. I thought we could easily have been 3-0 down in first half, and they missed a further one or two 1 on 1s second half, while we made huff and puff 1 goal , could have been 2 or 3. First time I've seen an almost own goal that hit our own post !? I really like their strong, composed number6 and trickery of 11.... Rochdale played some good stuff and I would have thought felt aggrieved not to have troubled the score sheet at least once, especially with Henderson looking to get just one more to be their top ever goalscorer! ...? Well I guess he won't break his record v us...
My m o m Scotty Sinc....do do do, we got a Bristol Pele What a delight to watch. You can see he's been coached to high level. Doesn't appear to have lost pace, his first touch is graceful, control sumptuous and took his goal well because he could have had a hat trick by instinctively finding space in the box. I loved his contribution, and to be a local hero just put the cherry on the top.
Aaza had quiet by his standards game.
Great to see Saunders back, for me the catalyst in changing the game.
Still don't get Gibbons. Poor game for me, kept giving ball away, caught a couple of times.
BT liability. Played some hospital balls and I thought struggled to mark and keep tabs on Henderson.
Belly joint m o m for his saves that kept us in it, with first half double save that whistle went to stop the move but he still kept the ball out if net with sublime stops.
Finley everywhere, as expected, great captaincy.
Nice to see dependable Whelan....not in defence!
So all in all, we didn't really get out of second gear and turned out a regulatory performance to do just enough to get through to next round. I really hope it's worth it, because the dream of 3rd round big draw becomes a bit closer....but knowing our luck, who knows what the draw will bring?
Lastly, for any stattos out there, has there ever been a player that's scored their first goal 18 years after debut? Hmmmmmm.....🤔

I had pretty low expectations but they were more than surpassed! Glad I went, atmosphere was ok considering. Would def have been worse if whole ground was open so think club got it right. We were very shaky in 1st half and luck to be level at HT, but turned it around in 2nd. Not as convincingly as I’d have liked but the changes did work against a very dogged Rochdale rightly hoping and almost achieving an upset. Saunders and Sinclair are both class. Belly hero again. And Aza looked good but frustrated

Oscar Kelly became Dale's third youngest ever debut during Saturday's Emirates FA Cup tie at Bristol Rovers.
He appeared as an 86th minute substitue at the Memorial Stadium, at the age of 15 years, eight months and 29 days.
Only Peter Thomas (15 years and 22 days) and Kevin Dos Santos (15 years, five months and 15 days old), who made his debut in the Papa John's Trophy earlier this season, were younger at the time of their Dale debuts.

Lastly, for any stattos out there, has there ever been a player that's scored their first goal 18 years after debut? Hmmmmmm.....🤔 its really weird to see someone who viewed the match exactly as i saw it. Normally i am thinking - were they at the same match as me? The only additional comment would be that James Connolly reminded us how important a player he is in just 1.5 games and whilst i felt that his passing was a little rusty and he tended to play it safe - that will get better as match fitness returns. Thomas worries me - he is very commanding in the air but has the occasional lapse of concentration when the ball is at his feet and he gives the ball away in dangerous positions. I genuinely feel that Alfie is a stronger player defensively and has worked so hard on his passing game that he should be playing. I dont see that happening so just hope that our new central defensive pairing will be Gibson and Connolly. I think that its a shame that Luca was played out of position as that upset his confidence - he needs to find his feet and return at right back as he is sound defensively and offers the surging runs down the right wing that were so lacking on saturday until Saunders came on and transformed the game.
