They stopped going ages ago. Still strikes me as odd they could start following a different club.
Wembley Gas...they stopped going before Kevin Spencer was banned.

People move home and then go to watch their new local team. A lot of Rovers supporters used to live in other areas of the country. Exactly. Living in Bournemouth isn’t too far but add a family into it with two small children and a busy job just made it impossible for me to take out one of two free days in a weekend to go to Bristol and back. When my two wanted to see football live I took them to the local club, AFCB. I did it to stop them being armchair Man U fans. And then one of them got hooked and wanted to do it more often. So it kind of backfired on me, I like live football and to get that I kind of got away with it by taking the children to AFCB and later it was sensible to become ST holders. So going to see another club doesn’t mean too much, certainly doesn’t stop you being a fan of your first love. But despite that I’ve never lost being a gashead. I know that because all the people I sit next to still take the **** and wonder why I support a little club! And driving home last night in that storm even made me wonder! UTG!

I remember going to a pub before Brentford away and inadvertly sitting next to Ian and Hazel. Didn't realise who they were before we got chatting.
I don't care what team they follow, they were good people.
However, Rovers loss and Wimbedons gain.
Went to the game, we lost 2-1, during the second half (before mobile phones/social media) the news started to filter through - the date 15th April 1989. Hillsborough.
Remember a lot of Rovers fans sat on the terrace numb with the news. I was one of them.

I used to do go to the same school as Hazel, although she was a few years below. Knew her sister Karen better and played in a band with her. Karen was in the Losenges for a while. Anyone remember them? A staple on the Bristol music scene in the late 80s. Hazel was a very talented writer, I imagine she still is. Last bumped into her years and years ago in a Brentford pub before a rovers match. Probably late 80s? Might have been a Malcolm Allison match. When I see England flags at cricket round the world saying 'Hackney Gas' I wonder if that's her.
Oddly enough my Dad, now 88, knew Hazel and Karen's dad through teaching. Their Dad was very classy to us as he had a new Mk IV Cortina which trumped our Fiesta.

Well my contribution to this thread was pretty bloody inaccurate in several ways! Apologies all. Return journeys after dispiriting defeats are never much fun and unfortunately I remember Hazel was involved in two of mine…I first met her on the train back to Liverpool St from Southend after they turned us over 3-0, we were outclassed and Stan Collymore got at least two of theirs, none of us could believe how ineffective we were…and this was 1993 so it was several years before our first ever drop into the 4th tier and those dismal struggles at the foot of the basement under Thompson and Graydon. The second one was when we were both passengers in a car back from Wigan having witnessed the only game that survived the weather in a 50 mile radius (but shouldn’t have) as an incompetent official had sent five players from the field, four of whom were wearing Rovers yellow. Incredulity at the refs performance kept resurfacing after minutes of stunned silence as the miles back to London crawled by on a snowy motorway journey. Probably the journey back from the Northampton play off semi final defeat was worse but I don’t look back on either trip fondly!

Good thread, brings back alot of memories. Certainly remember The Losenges.....Stuart Gibb,Andy Pinner, the drummer, can't remember his name, big lad. They played cricket for The Lion in Cliftonwood.I played for the Highbury and played against them many times.I later played for The Lion with the Nairn twins when they started taking their cricket more seriously. Also remember Ian and Hazel.Wasn't there a fair haired chap who followed Surrey and a tall bloke from Barnsley with glasses who were usually with them ? Was also at the game at Brentford in 1989.A 1-1 draw,I think. Impossible to forget.

I used to go to a lot of games with Ian & Hazel being based in Essex we used to meet up in London to travel to games. Also contributed to the 2nd of may on occasions and stood outside the Mem selling copies. BTW Hazel's mum can still be seen on the West Stand terracing for most games.

It really surprised me that the 2nd of May was made by people who weren’t locals as we had a lot of imaginative people around and lot of T shirts, jumpers ( the one with the pirate with his hook in a Robin is one that stands out. If asked then I’d have been positive that it was sorted locally. I still have a few , up in the loft and in the garage. I used to really enjoy reading it

Saturday was her birthday and she had been to see Karen play a gig at the iconic Dublin Castle music venue in Camden. Apparently now part of a band called Train to Skaville. As you mentioned Hazel and Ian are big cricket fans. When Rovers were going to move to Cheltenham I didn't fancy the drive from Cheam to Cheltenham so took a two year secondment to move to my firm's office in Mumbai (still kept the season ticket though). As the only gashead living in Mumbai, Mumbai Gas drinks used to be me drinking alone. Hazel and Ian came out to Mumbai in 2011 for the cricket world cup and we had a Mumbai Gas drink up in the hotel bar where they were staying (the famous Taj Hotel). Only us and some members of the Sri Lanka cricket team (just returned to the hotel after a match) in the bar. Hazel knew some of them who had played for Gloucestershire.

There was a time before I had kids (late 90s/early 2000s I think) when I got to know Hazel and Ian quite well - spent many a pre match drinking in the Welly with them and would often meet up at away games. I remember lots of toxic, political stuff going on at the time in terms of the club’s ownership and Higgs’ regime (not that I fully understood all of it). I remember being introduced to Mike Turl (I think?) who was wanting to take the club in a different direction. I also remember an awkward moment in a quiet pub at Notts County when a number of members of the Board came in for a drink and there being some polite but difficult nods and hellos! Was grateful to them for bringing me into their group of friends at a time when I was basically just going to games on my own, some of whom I still bump into at away games and say hello to. I can understand why they got disillusioned with Rovers and got involved in a more local, fan run club, although personally I don’t think I could have gone as far as completely changing allegiances (but each to their own). Think they still can be found at Glos., Somerset and England cricket matches.

Wembley Gas...they stopped going before Kevin Spencer was banned. i grew up supporting my home town club and for a year or so commuted every weekend from Bristol but knew it couldn't go on like that if i was to make a life for myself in my new home. i think that i went to every game for about 10 years before i called myself a gashead

Maybe it's my age...but great though Second of May was, the Gashead fanzine was always the default for me. I honestly have no idea how long either of these fanzines ran for but I do remember going to Twerton with my Dad and one of us would always buy the Gashead and the other the match day program. I feel like it was around for years but this just be due to the fact it was around at the time when I went to the most games. My username was a charachter in the gashead fanzine. Think I've got a few copies in the loft somewhere.
