There was a Rovers fanzine called Second of May by Ian and Hazel. Are they still about?

There was a Rovers fanzine called Second of May by Ian and Hazel. Are they still about? Last I knew they were living in (East?) London, and supporting AFC Wimbledon, also very much into following the England cricket team. I used to enjoy the fanzine, it was a good read.

Maybe it's my age...but great though Second of May was, the Gashead fanzine was always the default for me. I honestly have no idea how long either of these fanzines ran for but I do remember going to Twerton with my Dad and one of us would always buy the Gashead and the other the match day program. I feel like it was around for years but this just be due to the fact it was around at the time when I went to the most games.

They are living in East London and following AFC Wimbledon. Used to be part of London Gas but got disillusioned with the Dunford regime in particular. Found AFC Wimbledon a better fit for their beliefs on how a football club should be run.

Yep. As others have said they fell out with the regime early / mid 2000s iirc.
Shame as they seemed like great people. Always used to love it walking to games and seeing Ian with a pile of the new fanzines outside the entrance.

Can never understand how anyone could switch to supporting another club , it’s just weird .

Agree with Yatton, i don't understand how as a supporter you switch your allegiance to another club every time 'your' club pi...s you off! I mean we have a few on here who are very unhappy with aspects of our club but i am sure they are still Rover's supporters at heart. Different if you are just a follower of a club i suppose. Sounds like Rovers were just a vehicle for there undoubted journalistic talents at that time.

Even though I may not agree with everything that goes on behind the scenes, I could never support another football team. Very strange.

I think I’ve spotted them at the Hackney beer festival a few times over the years. I’ll look out for them at the next one.
There is lots of football to watch here in London and I went to Arsenal many a time in the Wenger days. Like them as I did, still do, they are never “my team”. Odd to switch allegiances but each to their own.
I hope they are having fun watching Wimbledon. Their fanzine was excellent.

People move home and then go to watch their new local team. A lot of Rovers supporters used to live in other areas of the country.

Nothing could be further than the truth. Even when living in London they were following Rovers all over the country and did a lot to support and promote the club. Whilst I could never switch my allegiance I respect the reasons why they did.

They put a lot of work in trying to establish an independent supporters group, something which many people have been asking for over the years, feeling the the SC was another arm of the club, not an independent voice for the fans. Can't remember exactly, but I think that maybe the outcome of the share scheme might have contributed to their decision to no longer travel to Bristol every other week.

I thought the straw that broke the camel’s back was the banning of former board member Kevin Spencer (Swissgas on the other forum) under the Higgs chairmanship? Wael, I believe subsequently revoked the ban but several former gasheads felt their love for the club had been soured, and for some it was irrevocable. I think the AFC Wimbledon switch was originally fuelled by a hatred of franchise football that the move to MK had engendered and a desire to support the AFC phoenix club to succeed in it’s stead. Ian & Hazel were always used to a bit of spice in their sporting lives as every time there was a Glos v Somerset cricket encounter they were supporting different sides.
