Standing in the East Terrace last week with my eight year old I had a empty section of bar infront of me with a coat over it, I asked if my son could stand there to be told no, the guy who told me this spent the whole game on his phone ranting on about Premier league goals going in, barely looked up from his phone, then decided to stand directly infront my son in the second half, now I know people are addicted to their phones but there is a game going on infront of you. Also in the past, I’ve stepped aside for a child many times, it’s very difficult for them to get a good view with the current set up on the terraces sadly. The issue is, a “seat” is a space on the terrace. If your ticket requires the space of 2 people, others have to go and stand at the back. Terrace is not a good place for kids. I would go for the seating, when I was little my dad took me in the seating and by about 13 I was on the terrace. You can angle your body to give a kid a view, but before I’ve seen a woman with 4 kids stand right in the best but on the east terrace and then expected the 2 rows down to be unpopulated. There just isn’t the space. The right place on a terrace for kids is at the front. If you can’t get on the barriers anymore you can always join the terrace at it’s lowest point so to speak. On the people on the bar, on the east terrace there is a gang (one massive sportswear wearing kind of guy) who bag a bar position and then instead of standing upright, they lean forward on the bar so they can take 2 steps instead of the one they need. If you’re ever near them they kind of enforce their (larger than required space) and the aforementioned man I swear eats chickpeas the night before as he seems to fart throughout the game.

To be fair that is what we do, and it works quite well. My bug bearer was why go to a match to watch your phone and constantly go on about Premiership scores while having no awareness of space around you.

Yeah I have zero interest in premiership football full stop.

It should never have got pass the planning stage, although it did seem popular with fans, assuming they weren't all freebies. I’ve taken my nephews in there and the old family terrace over the last 3 years. Believe you me they had a much better time in the family stand than in the north west terrace as it now is. Shocking experience for a kid. They couldn’t see sh**e. Convert the NW terrace to seating would seem the solution.
