The thing is though rich it's a myth that he's an excellent shot stopper. He's 19th in league one this season for shots saved across all 24 goalies. That isn't good enough. People who say but he's kept us in games with his saves. Every other keeper in every league keep teams in games with saves. Belshaw is 19th best at doing that out of 24 in our league. If we want to go places we need better. And as harsh as that sounds fan favourites like belly will have to be replaced. What I do agree on is I'm happy to finish 12th this season. I don't think we are as good as the top 6. Barton however obviously thinks differently so il trust his judgment on wether fan favourites need replacing. I was not aware of the stats. I would say that Belshaw has not been as effective as he was last season, I did not realise that the stats put him at the bottom of the league though. I will stand by my comments and defend Belly and say that the defense has been less effective this season, which perhaps have skewed the stats and made Belly look worse as a result. He has made mistakes and I hope he learns from them.
Agree 100% that there is little room for "favourites" and sentimentality if we are to progress as a club. Players must always be in the team on merit. JB has proved quite ruthless in this regard, so if changes are required I am sure he will make them. There are a number of players living off the credit rightly earned from last season.
I was shocked when i saw those stats in today's post article. I also gave belly a lot of leeway and I thought well he does keep us in a lot of games with shots saved. Turns out he doesnt in comparison to the rest of the league he just does his job to a not particularly great standard in this division. I noticed at the boreham wood game he panics when corners get swung in he doesn't command the area at all and this in turn puts the defence on edge. It happened on almost every corner last night against quite a small Exeter team which is extremely worrying. I've started to watch back the goals weve conceded and the majority of his saves are close range instinctive saves at which he is great. Unfortunately due to his positioning he concedes far too many long range shots and shots which are accurately placed in corners he just can't get across to reach. I'm not In the belly out camp just yet but I wouldn't be adverse to having a new keeper come in in Jan.

At the Wycombe game, when Wycombe were attacking the away end in the first half, every cross caused panic in our defense. They could have scored from every single cross.
It is definitely an area of our game that needs work / strengthening.

Yes last night shouldn't have happened from recovering to lead, yes we are defensively vulnerable at but moment... But At least we are scoring and creating chances. The defence I'm sure will be addressed in the upcoming window. We are seriously good going forward. Crowds are still up. I'm sure asked at the start of the season and following our start until October, we would have all taken 4 points off of the play offs at this stage. Our following fixtures are against Cheltenham Cambridge Accy Wycombe Morecambe MK Dons Lincoln And we have to be positive and think at least 5 are winnable and should be targeting 15+ points. If we can get rid of the dead wood in the window and maybe get Taylor in... All will be looking up. UTG Yep,if we can stop conceding so many goals, our good midfield (great when it's Finley and Rossitter) and great forwards will see us win aplenty. We can challenge. I've feeling Joe will sign a GK asap. This might not be until the Summer, depending on availability.Evans needs to be more switched on.

To be fair to Oldie that post is pretty hard to decipher. Some people struggle getting their thoughts in order, and written down - I'm not saying that is the case here, although I do think that posters need to be more open to the idea that everybody has different skills. I'm rubbish at posting from my phone, mainly due to fat thumbs, poor eyesight, and my brain does get a bit mushed sometimes. We're posting our thoughts and views on a football forum, not sitting an English A Level exam, why belittle somebody? On another forum I sometimes use it’s considered bad manners to highlight another posters spelling mistakes & grammar . You get a warning for doing so and three strikes and you’re out. *PS for all the bloody numpties on here you lose a game of football not bloody loose ! 😂

The good news is Joe is fully aware of the current issues. Also the window is upon us so strengthening can happen.
Teams who concede as many goals as we are do not finish in the top half of the league one table.
Its good he is prepared to ditch players no matter how popular they are . I hope though he doesnt slate players he wants to leave as they will then struggle to get interest elsewhere. He needs to talk them up a bit.
Joe also talks of higher quality players coming into the club. So will be interesting to see who comes through the door. No changes and 13th-18th is likely the outcome. Which as a newly promoted club isnt terrible as it achieves the core target of staying up. Though playoffs will not happen.

Far too early to write off anything. Promotion or perish the thought relegation. We were a totally different side last season after Christmas and we are closer to the playoffs now than we were then. A few reinforcements at the back and it's still within reach. And I'm not a happy clapper.

Seeing as the gaffer isn’t a fan of “rewarding failure” I wonder if either of the back up keepers will get the nod on NYD. Personally I’d stick with Belshaw but purely curious going by JB’s own statements. My guess will be he will give him a game or two to prove himself before that happens. Belshaw on form really adds dimensions to the team.

Also seems quite injury prone now too. As for Ward I think he’s miles off contending for first choice keeper in a promotion aspiring league one team.

Hopefully the shock and embarrassment of Thursday together with JB’s boot up his arse will see him back to his old self!

I just saw our “backups” (plural) being mentioned for tomorrows game and someone even suggested Ward should start!

I can't understand how Jaakola is just content to sit on the bench every week rather than play competitive games at another club.

I can't understand how Jaakola is just content to sit on the bench every week rather than play competitive games at another club. Jakola, every time I’ve seen him play the last few times, he has given away goals by not coming for crosses. He’s rusty of course, but Belshaw gives us SO much as a sweeper keeper. The way we play is not set up for a traditional keeper. However, I do understand that Jak must be thinking “what do I have to do to get a start. The other guy is literally losing us games” I would imagine Jak is on quite good money and prob couldn’t get the same wages elsewhere. When he signed I think it was when he was a really useful keeper.
