So that’s it for an incredible last 12 months watching Rovers.
Time to decide which was your favourite game of them all and why? In the interest of repeat and obvious answers I’m banning three matches that 99.9% of Gasheads would definitely choose.
So your favourite game other than the following:
Vale 1 - 3 Gas Rochdale 3 - 4 Gas Gas 7 - 0 Scunny
I’m going for Stevenage 0 - 4 Rovers on 19th February.
A match I didn’t think would even go ahead due to the pre match monsoon while the lads were warming up. Tisdale sent out a midfield 3 of Upson, Lines & Bostwick against what would soon be the best side in the league! Suicide. 1-0 up half time and it should’ve been 4! Walking out at full time I’ve never seen a match where I genuinely thought we should’ve won 9-0! Right in the middle of our solid two months of Saturday/Tuesday, it was this game where I genuinely thought we could go up! Few pints in a quiet local boozer just down the road from the away end, Great turn out from the Gasheads as always and superb scenes behind that goal with the quick fire double after half time.
So let’s hear them…

For me it's the Oxford cup game I think that's where our season actually kicked off and where things started to click within the side, and to come back the way we did and win the game against a higher opposition it spoke volumes.

Rochdale away for me. Incredible atmosphere at the end of the game and a game that had everything.

Was only at Scunthorpe but got to say, Rochdale was absolutely most ridiculous game for me. And that’s saying something knowing we beat Scunthorpe 7-0

That’s the game that kicked off Collins as well, hasn’t stopped since then

I don't get to that many away games, and for years had a terrible record! So along with Port Vale, being 0-4 up at half time at Cheltenham, and the comeback win at Charlton were wonderful

The 7 0.I did actually predict it,but yet again, failed to bet on it.
Then the Cup game replay v Oxford United. The Aaron rocket!
Two incredible football matches in a truly incredible season.

For me the Rochdale game said “we’re gonna do this” just seemed so pivotal.

I'll go with the Oxford replay. Was at the Vale and Scunthorpe, but neither had the 'Victor Meldrew moment' and 'never say die' attitude (Because Scunthorpe had an air of inevitability about after the 5th went in) that the Oxford game had and, as many have said, that was the start for Aaron which, despite a few stutters, he's continued into this season! We might be lucky to hang on to him in January? Doh! Just realised that was actually 2021, so I was wrong, but I still belive it was the match where Joeys team/vision started to come together!

Promotion day had everything and will live very long in the memory, what a day! Half time, no one saw it coming and everyone was working out who we might get in the play offs...and we were en route to face them all at some stage or another over those 90 mins. To go top 3 for the first time in the season and nick 3rd place was absolutely incredible and you could hardly believe what was unfolding in front of us.
But, the most important game is the next one and learning from the one just gone. Everything else is history. I hope we learn from the Exeter game when we take to the field on Sunday.

Northampton Away. 0-1 Win. We scored in under 30 seconds, We were clearly a far worse side on the day but our young defence held (& I really mean held on at times) for the whole 90 mins.
This was the six poniter that sent us up & kept Northampton down! Terrible game to watch but so important over the 46 of a season.

Some marvellous matches in 2022, honourable mention to the match that enabled us to get into the automatic promotion place at all goes to the 4-3 at Rochdale, without that fight back we were condemned to the playoffs. However, for me it was the 7-0, I was in Stockholm with 3 of my mates (2 of which are City fans) I watched the match on ifollow on my iPad in the bar area of my hotel, I said I’d buy champagne if we did it, had a sneaking feeling we would too, it cost me that afternoon but it was worth it UTG
