If he's good enough then he's old enough! christ give the guy a break not even put his foot through the door and some have written him off.
Good luck Jack! Ignore the negativity from the likes of people who probably thought old heads like Hamer was a good appointment!!!

If he's good enough then he's old enough! christ give the guy a break not even put his foot through the door and some have written him off. Good luck Jack! Ignore the negativity from the likes of people who probably thought old heads like Hamer was a good appointment!!! Come on wsotr, who’s not giving him a break? I’m guessing this is aimed at me because I’ve posted most questions about it. Blimey, at least have the b**** to quote me and challenge me rather than just the blanket comment. To be clear I certainly haven’t “written him off” nor have I read anyone else doing that. And I’ve wished him good luck in his new post, similar to others. And I already agreed that if you’re good enough then you’re old enough. Aren’t we allowed to discuss it, which I hope I’ve done in a respectful way. Indeed in my early post I suggested he may be shadowing TG as he learns the ropes of what is a very technical post before taking full responsibility. I’ve no idea if that is correct or not, just an opinion, like the thousands of others on here. This is a very important post where the repercussions of getting it wrong could cost the club and team points if protocols aren’t followed. I’m sure that won’t happen and I’m sure TG is on it with Jack. I’m sure you’re not suggesting we should always be saying “oh that’s a wonderful decision” or “that’s a fantastic thing to do…” or “ we always make the right decision…” Or are you? Serious question. I thought the forum was the place to question, have a discussion and try and keep it respectful. As I said earlier I hope this forum is not just an echo chamber for unconditional support for the club. I hope my record shows that I try to give credit where it’s due but will question some things the club does. My support for the team on matchday is unconditional but I do think that we need to challenge some things. It’s only by questioning and challenging that you raise standards. I thought that was the way JB operated, he challenges and demands better (I think) to make things better! 😉 I’ll say it again for clarity, good luck Jack and wish you all the best in the very important role of club secretary. 👍👍👍 UTG!

"As I said earlier I hope this forum is not just an echo chamber for unconditional support for the club"
Well it certainly feels that way sometimes. Lo betide any comments on the management of the team.

In case you haven't seen the announcement on the website:- Bristol Rovers is pleased to announce the appointment of Jack Tomlinson as the club’s new secretary. At twenty-one years of age, Jack is the youngest secretary in the entire football league, but has already amassed experience in the same role at Oldham Athletic and Swindon Town. In his role, Jack will be responsible for an array of tasks, such as pre-match preparation, organising player travel and accommodation, ticketing, EFL compliance – including documentation, announcements and that all-important transfer paperwork – as well as general admin and everything required to ensure Rovers is run as efficiently as possible. Jack, who hails from The Wirral, said: “I’m really looking forward to getting started at Rovers. Once I got a call to come in and have a chat about the role, everything moved quickly. There will be a lot to get done, taking over from the previous Club Secretary, who had been in the role for over 20 years so, hopefully, I can bring a modern way of working into the club with new ideas.”Rovers CEO Tom Gorringe said: “We are delighted for Jack to be joining us. He fits the culture that we are trying to create here perfectly and his energy, experience and desire to push for continual improvement will no doubt benefit our football administration. "Despite his age, Jack has a wealth of experience and has already shown his value in his first week of service. Jack will no doubt be a big asset for the club over the coming years and I am sure you will all join me in welcoming him to the club and wishing him the best in his new role.” Club Website AnnouncementGood to have this very important role filled. It’s a very technical position ensuring regulations and EFL protocols are followed so I hope that he has enough experience and knowledge to do this. At 21 years of age he’s taken on a huge post and makes me think that many of the duties a secretary does may well be taken over by TG in the short term and that he will, for some time be secretary in name only and be shadowing TG. And this idea of bringing “a modern way of working” into the club. What’s that supposed to mean? Just because he’s 21 doesn’t necessarily mean he will bring modern ways just as someone in their 40s doesn’t mean they aren’t working in a “modern way.” Whatever “modern ways” mean. I’d say that making a comment like that gives away his inexperience. Best not to criticise, even by implication, your predecessor. And TG, I like you and what you’ve done and appreciate your willingness to communicate on those occasions I’ve had to email you but…. don’t tell me that anyone at the age of 21 has a “wealth of experience”. They may have had several experiences but no one at the age of 21 has had a wealth of experience! Anyway, good luck to him, I hope it goes well.UTG! My wish for it to go well obviously did not happen then. Oh dear! UTG! ps. Rather than a new thread perhaps we need to use the existing thread, not very old, to read previous pearls of wisdom about appointing a new club secretary. Mods, possibly combine the two?

The turn over in staff at Rovers in the last few seasons has been staggering, Clair in the office must be the only long serving member of staff still left.
