I’ve just seen a post on Facebook doing the rounds that we have averaged the ninth highest attendance in league 1 with 8,855. First of all well done all. The next highest is Barnsley with over 10,000 so we have literally no chance catching them. But what’s interesting is if you take this by percentage of the ground filled. We would finish second in the league with around 90%. Second only to Plymouth Argyle.
There is so much potential in this club constantly being squandered! No room in the North Stand most games so we’re loosing fans. Same for away fans. That aside I don’t remember Plymouth getting attendances of 15,000 in years gone by. Shows what a good season can do.
So let’s be realistic. If we had a good ground playing good football, what could we achieve?

I’ve been waiting for over 50 years for your last sentence to happen and we are still no further forward to that happening! Don’t hold your breath 😤

Are we the only team in the entire football league with this problem? Why don’t we actually try and do something about it?

It seems a ridiculous comparison given the differences in recent attendances and recent history. But if you compare us to teams who just a couple of decades ago were playing in the 3rd or 4th tier in old stadiums, you could say Cardiff, Swansea, Hull, Brighton. Our crowds are comfortably bigger than all those clubs were when they were at a similar stage in a similar stadium. Fast forward 20odd years and you put us in a different bracket to those clubs because they’ve all moved into nice new stadiums and have consistently played Prem/Championship football and as a result have got much bigger crowds. The site below is great for looking into these. And you can see all of the clubs quoted above attendances increase massively when moving into their new stadium. www.european-football-statistics.co.uk/englandcontent.htm

Plymouth improved their ground and capacity , attracted better players , who then get results and more fans turn up. It’s not rocket science. Ive no doubt we could have had a few 15k crowds this season if the seats were there and of course the extra away fans we could accommodate.

I think we’re all far too laid back. What about all that “levelling up” money? We should organise a march and block up the roads and make it a big newsworthy issue in Bristol. Annoy Marvin and get his attention. The whole of my life everyone has moaned that we can’t get a new stadium but nobody ever does anything about it!

Don’t hold your breath 😤 Sadly Marshy is so right.Remember when we were told to choose our seats at Cheltenham for the two year Mem Re -build? Shorter journey for me from Stafford but I smelt a rat when Lennie Lawrence was asked why the Mem re build hadn't even started in August and he said ,'The players still need somewhere to meet before games'. Predictably nothing happened so those who say 'I'll believe it when I'm sat in it' are sadly spot on. Also travelled down to the council house bottom of Park Street when a lady MP backed the UWE and we rejoiced when we got the ok.I got loads of signatures for the Eric Pickles decision which he rubber stamped but we all know what happened to UWE.Perhaps I should say what DIDN'T happen.

Maybe one day but we will be long gone by then

Does anyone know what the issue would be with replacing the East stand with a much larger stand going along the full length of the pitch.

If the South Stand was made bigger and the away support held up to 3000. Our average would be much higher. For example the games v Muff Exeter Ipswich could of been 10_12k with the full allocation of Away fans.
We still got 6 Big teams left to play and the 1200 tickets are sold within hours. I reckon we could be losing between 15k _ 20k away fans over a season. Our average would be around 9500.

Plan A is a new build in around 5 years time, as much as I'd love to it would divert funds away from that. If I won the Euromillions I doubt Wael would stop me, but again the money needed would be better speeding up the new build. Maybe a prefabricated temporary stand, if such a thing exists, although we'd also lose the facilities held in it. A decent new South Stand would be a more achievable target, could enclose the ground and for me, would really improve the aesthetics. £3m should do it. 🫣

I wonder if the grant in this article is worth looking at. It is now viewed as a ' community assett" . This may open up possible funding streams ?. www.bishopstonvoice.co.uk/plans-for-revamped-memorial-stadium

The only reason it hasn’t happened is because we sit here and take it. A few people having a moan online is easily ignored.
