With at least a fair bit of rebuilding required again, 3 key players will determine how much we have to do and how much we can build around what we have. Our 3 "big money" signings in summer 2022....
1) Antony Evans - everyone was delighted to bring back Evans after a stunning season where he ranked up there with Belly, Collins, Azza and Taylor as key to our promotion. But it's fair to say he has struggled this season to recreate the form - not through lack of effort. Key here for me is playing to his strengths, he is less impactful behind 3 (or 4) attackers, and needs to be our creative source in the AM role to really shine again. Fingers crossed we see some of that before the end of the season.
2) James Connolly - again, another fan-pleasing signing. Has struggled without Taylor alongside him, but he is definetly one we need to protect and nurture. Sure he will come good again in a more settled side (see Luca Hoole for eg). If we can get Gibson on perm and or maybe Taylor back, then we have a good starting position.
3) Luke McCormick - probably the biggest disappointment this season. Like Connolly, he is still young and if we can nurture him correctly, I am sure we will see the best of him again soon. Just worried with both him and Connolly, they could be on the end of another JB slaughter and loaned out losing all the money we spent getting them here. Hope not.
Those 3 performing at their best alongside starters like Rossiter, Finley, Hoole, Gibbons, Anderson, Marquis & Loft would mean a lot less pressure on the summer window
Back to work...

On the whole I would agree, certainly as squad players. I'd like to see a quality spine to the team, so GK (possibly), commanding centre half, midfielder and (sadly) a Collins replacement. In addition we'll need to replace the key loanees, so probably 8 additions. I also wouldn't underestimate the importance of getting the South Stand right as this will affect perception of our ambition and enclosing the ground for an improved atmosphere.

Interesting all three were stated to be top-picks by the pundits on the forum!
What do we know?

I got slated before the start of the season when I said I didn't think Connolly was as good as many think he is and that Taylor made him look better than he is. But as is usually the case I have been proven right. Antony Evans will come good again I think but been disappointing this season. Luke McCormick is a strange one. I was very pleased we resigned him but he has been very disappointing and we nearly always look a weaker team with him in it.

Sell Collins and go and get Longstaff from Notts. All the rest bin off if poss.

He has 2 years left on his contract and the Notts County owners are ambitious and in no rush to sell, stating it would take an "extraordinary offer" to prise him away.

Re Macca some did say, he's been relegated in the last two seasons. Again the wise sages here said not because of him. It can be said he looked good in bad teams.

Yes if we sold Collins for over 2M And what about the wages a £2m player would demand? At £2m most potential buyers would be championship clubs and offering probably 4 times as much in wages than we’ve ever paid anyone in our history. Never happening in a million years unless we’re playing a computer game.

Never happening in a million years unless we’re playing a computer game. Surely the most Langstaffe would go for is a million. I do agree Rovers would probably not fork that amount of cash out even if we got 2 million for Collins. But if we are to try and obtain a top 6 finish then we have to go for these type of players. Basically if we end up playing the likes of Loft I can only see one way we will go.

Spending £1m would be a hell of a gamble for JB, let's leave that for a team like Posh who can afford to gamble.

The 3 on my OP will all be on contracts for another 2 years (even Trevor Clarke has another year or two i think) Joey and the coaching team need to prove their ability in coaching young players and make these costly players they signed work!

Here's what I'd like to see for the squad ahead of the new season
GK Belly with new first team competition for place Ward used in pre-season then a half season/full season loan to National League
Defence In contract and part of future: Hoole, Gibbons, Connolly, Gordon Clarke I dont expect to return and we need a new first choice LB Incl. Ryan Jones as a LB/LWB option in preseason and see if he is ready to compete, new 1 year deal and loan again if not quite ready Need: New first choice CB and additional to compete with Connolly. Gibson and Taylor would be ideal RB looks ok.
Midfield In contract and part of future: Finley, Rossiter, Evans, McCormick, Lawrence Extend contract for Ward, Anderson (R. Jones as above), short term deal for Josh Grant to prove fitness. Need replacement for Coutts, Bogarde.
Attack In contract is interesting. Collins we all expect to leave, Loft may well be loaned out or sold if an offer comes in. Marquis and Sinclair part of plans, who we get to replace Collins may determine if Loft stays too or not. Would love Alfie May and Ruben Rodriguez. Plus a prem starlet on loan!
Doesnt feel to bad in terms of turnover, but relies heavily on the 3 players mentioned in the post stepping up.

True -- But we did take a chance on a certain Barry Hayles once and look how that turned out.
