I know every club has a rogue element and I don't go away much these days, but I haven't really seen much trouble at games for a while.
I was a bit surprised by the Charlton programme.
It featured a Community Trust article on Gas Girls player Layah Douglas being appointed a Kick It Out ambassador.
Unfortunately we do have an element that see colour rather than the person and quite rightly it should be talked about and the club should do everything in its power to educate.
Congratulations to Layah and the CT.
However in The Pirate, there was also a full page on match day reporting of "inappropriate behaviour"(Tel 07451 288 910 if you don't know)
Another full page on " Zero Tolerance " for anti discrimination and victimisation
And another full page on "Dangerous and criminal behaviour".
Are we really that bad? (or did the media team run out of articles pre Easter hols?)

Would imagine we are as good or bad as any club, e.g. 99% wouldn't dream of it but you can never be complacent

Are we really that bad? (or did the media team run out of articles pre Easter hols?) There have been odd pockets of various types of inappropriate behaviour. I would see this as part of the club's improved communication, much better to be open now about how these things are viewed, and will dealt with, rather than waiting for it to possibly escalate before saying anything.

I think the club is right and that there is a problem brewing that needs nipping in the bud. As somebody that was around and experienced some of the nonsense - not to mention occasional terror! - back in the 70s I have sensed underlying problems a few times recently. I sit in the bubble of the West Stand so haven’t seen anything at home except the loudmouth in the Directors’ Guests area shouting his mouth off winding people up at one game. Might have been Fleetwood actually? Stewards had to step in there and defuse it. Looked like a “Suit” in his 50s so it’s not exclusively a problem amongst the young. I haven’t been to as many away games as I’d have liked this season but away to Derby the aggression shown by a few of “our” fans towards stewards and then police was worrying. The stewards weren’t blameless and one police officer in particular didn’t help at all but it was a few (maybe 3) of our drunken fans that caused the problem. All except 1 had been dragged away by more responsible mates by the time I left after the game. I hope the other one was as well. The particularly awkward PC had been ordered away by a sensible Sergeant before halftime, good move. The younger (probably under 60) generations have not experienced the reality of all out hooliganism with fighting between fans and fans and police, bricks coming through coach windows, people injured, getting soaked and frozen or worse. Those of us that have wouldn’t wish it on anyone, it shouldn’t have any part in football. Pointing out the issues doesn’t often work though. Education has but only through prolonged campaigns started early across the whole of society. Arguments seem to be flaring up everywhere lately as people are, understandably in many ways, unhappy with their lot when those at the top, seen as responsible for making the rules, seem to be capable of ignoring all the rules and sailing serenely on. Rows in checkout queues never happened but seem almost commonplace. Road rage endemic. Attacks on teachers, nurses, ambulance drivers etc.. It’s not just a football problem but we need to be aware of it and play our part in stopping it before it gets worse. UTG!

Good points but I doubt many of the culprits are likely to read the programme.
Well, the contact number is on the thread so if someone feels inclined to raise anything they can call.
Hopefully more aware stewarding could help, but maybe a lot of these problems are social, but football gets the blame.
I suppose as fans we have to self police, but like the pitch invaders v FGR and Scunthorpe, even if you get shouted at or booed by 100 people, is that going to stop someone?
