Anyone know what - Getting business done early means?
Appreciate the window hasn’t officially opened yet but other than resigning our own there doesn’t seem to be a lot happening. Maybe Jennings hasn’t got WI-Fi on his saga cruise?
I thought ‘ Gide’ would mean players through the door for Day One of preseason ? That’s about 20 days away.
The 12 needed I am guesstimating is now 10 as surely Harvey isn’t the missing top six link.
Five on loan - later in the window because as we all know that’s where the value is and therefore five more over the next three weeks ?
Serious question though when is the deadline for getting things done ‘early’

Serious question though when is the deadline for getting things done ‘early’ I think tieing down a few of our own counts as getting business done, we now know that they're not going elsewhere. The majority of players will still be on holiday at the moment, and I'm guessing that a lot of the managers and agents will be as well. I would say about a month before the season kicks off (12th August), would be reasonable. Signing a player is a two way thing, (or three way if the agent has a lot of clout), it's not a simple shopping trip, lots of variables to make it happen with some players, no matter how much we may want to sign them. |

Ah …. The annual pre-season we haven’t signed enough players thread 😀 Love it ! I remember when I used to ring Club Call several times a day, to see if we'd signed anybody. When the sky high phone bill came in, I blamed it on my son. I used to hang on until the Evening Post three star edition came out just in case. Happened just the once, I think. |

Seeing “not a full preseason” was used to excuse a number of players over the past couple of seasons I would think we need the bulk done by the end of June.
Loans, where they are doing preseason at their own clubs can obv come a bit later.
Hoping for some news this weekend (not just Ryan Jones signing a 6 month contract!)

Early June?
Doesn’t matter when so long as you get the right ones. In ‘20 we got much of it done early, problem was we stopped after the midfield and the defence and forgot to get strikers.

I agree about all players having a full JB pre-season, if possible. I'm really hoping that will make the difference for Luke McCormack this coming season. |

Best to do your negotiating in a surreptitious manner until the window is open and signings become official. Whilst they are just gentleman’s agreements unscrupulous but potentially more attractive clubs could undermine the deal and steal a march on you. Announcements occurring on a staggered level between window opening and first day of preseason is the most prudent action. As for loan players, some may get done early but the majority occur once the loaning clubs have worked out their own half season playing rosters, and whilst these players don’t get a preseason with us they do get put through their paces at their parent club so a “McCormick-like situation “ where a player is left to his own devices during preseason for daring to suggest he’d like to accept a higher club’s move for him is not going to happen. Early June is always the slowest period for squad news which is why they dragged out the new contract confirmations, HG tweeted he was going to stay another season over a week before Rovers officially announced it. Sparse news is drip fed to us because they know how notoriously bloody impatient Gasheads are.

I was told the other day that most contracts actually end on the 14th of June for EFL players this year, so players that will be out of contract are technically still in contract.
So I doubt we will see much movement until the end of this month at the earliest when holidays have finished etc.

Jones has come a long way since playing for Hutton in the Somerset County League! Hopefully he can kick on again. Good luck to him. |
