Started at Standard Check Book Company in 1988. Will always remain as that despite various name changes and take overs. Was once a great place to work. Sadly when I left in 2017 it was not the same. Used to do a bit of work for them at my last job. I knew one of the engineers there.

The crappy place opposite the cenotaph in Frome used to be good just down from the Wheatsheaf. Been gone a few years sadly, Riverhouse at the Black Swan Arts centre is very good for food, including breakfasts when I look at them, but was packed out yesterday, usually is though. Oh really? That's sad. I don't come to Frome anymore since FT&G closed down.

Until they all moved into one workshop. Great bunch of talented guys. A few of them have sadly passed away. Which one did you know Hugo?

That makes a blast from the past! Had some great times in that place, but the MBO was the turning point.

Fromes great just avoid the damn Independent market on the 1st Sunday of the month, I’m out and gone by nine, the place turns to hell.

Cheers for the tips lads, in the end I couldn't be arsed to get dressed so had one of those porridge pot things my misses buys industrial quantities of as she takes one to work each day.
Will visit this thread before I go for my next fry up!

The building was bought and turned into open plan offices for people to rent. It has the FT&G cafe and the internals still retain many of the original features of the building such as some old factory doors and some of the old block and tackle lifting hoists that used to be over the lathes and jigboring shop! It was very surreal going back in there a year after they did it all out. I'm told the cafe (which is open to the public) is very good.

Ah I know the place you’re talking about, it’s quite controversial, it has links to The Lighthouse, they’ve also bought up numerous properties in Vobster.

Tried practically every cafe in Bristol over the years, the Square Meal in Fishponds is great. Moved to Radstock couple of years ago Porkies in Westfield beats them all.

Easter Compton farm shop do a nice breakfast that they say everything apart from the beans is produced from the farm. Also they sell scumpy in the shop.😋 Have eaten there a few times but never had the breakfast! We get our meat from there.

Not sure if I could manage Jocks grub, but mine would have to include; eggs, fried bread, unsmoked bacon, mushrooms, tomotoes, hash browns, coffee. None of it swimming in grease! Don't like sausages and hate black pudding! And being a lady(!) don't want a "gut buster" breakfast.

Going back….Saturday ritual in late 60s and early 70s get train from Taunton to Temple Meads walk down Station Approach to the bottom, turn right and about 3 shops along was a true greasy spoon. Saturday lunch in there and then out to Eastville. No idea what its name was but it had an old boy serving up a real greasy spoon fry up. Steamy, plastic tablecloths, real old style. Became a ritual with friends. After it we were able to walk to centre then out through St Paul’s to the ground. 👍
UTG!

Absolute no to hash browns in a traditional breakfast. They are a relatively recent American invasion.
I like them very much, but I like chicken tikka too and and am horrified to see it appearing on pizzas.
